My Ol' Man met SHATNER!

Rush Limborg

Vice Admiral
Admiral
So, I was watching "Ballance of Terror" one day, and my dad is watchin' with me. And out o' the blue, he says, "Y'know, I actually met Shatner once, when I was a kid."

My jaw dropped. I was like, "WOAH!"

it was like this:

Back in the day, my granddather on my dad's side was a Marine (who served in Vietnam, by the way). Andy Griffith and The Shat were doing a movie about the Marines (all you movie buffs can probably tell me the title...), and Grandfather was one of the consultants. So he took my dad to the set, and introduced him to Andy and Bill, who shook hands with him.

Anyone else here have a family member who met a Trek-actor in person?

Maybe you met one yourself. Whatever. Let's hear about it!

Hmmmm. As far as I know the only movies Andy and Bill Co-Starred in were "Go Ask Alice" and "Pray For the Wildcats." Can't say I recall any Marines in either.

I've met Frakes, Dorn and David Ogden Stiers.

Was your grandfather a motorcycle enthusiast? "Pray For the Wildcats" is about a bunch of middle aged guys taking a road trip on motorcycles.

George Takai
Walter Keonig
Nichelle Nichols
Brent Spiner
Jonathan Frakes
Marina Sirtis
LeVar Burton
Gates McFadden
Wil Weaton
Armin Shimmerman
Conner Traineer

...not counting guest actors, and such.
Now, if you don't count those I've spoken to at conventions, that list goes way down to Walter Koenig, Nichelle Nichols, and James Doohan, (Doohan I spoke to once at a call-in radio show.

I did give blood once with WIlliam Windom.

I have distant relatives in Ireland who are friends with Colm Meaney's family. That's about as far as I get, sadly.

I met Garry Graham a couple of times.....my dad's college roomate is a hollywood type. Garry is a badass, and a cool cat!

It's "Takei" not "Takai". "Takai" means expensive, now that doesn't mean "Takei" means cheap, A-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.

I met John DeLancie when I was working at the Borders in Center City, Philadelphia about a decade ago. He bought a book about the South Philly mob for his son. I gift wrapped it and chatted with him about the book--he was super-enthusiastic, like a kid-- and about Alien Voices. My friend got his autograph. He was a thoroughly charming guy, very down-to-earth and genuine.

I met Shatner back in March I think? or was it April? I can't remember. Signed his book for me, let me take a photo with him (even though he didn't look up). Oh well.

We met Shatner in May. It was the day my cousin passed away (morbid way of remembering, I know).

No...not that I know of. I may have heard Dad wrong, though. Is there a scene in the movie at a military installation?

I have met most of the original cast over the years except for DeForest Kelley who I sadly never got to meet. Funny thing is he and I have the exact same last name...

Hey--think you're related?

BTW, my grandfather on my mother's side, his last name is "Rockwell". Because of this, I've often speculated that he's a decendent of NORMAN Rockwell, the famous artist.

If your grandfather is indeed a descendant of Norman Rockwell, your family would know since he died only 30 years ago. Assuming your grandfather was born in the 1920s or the 1930s, NR would be only old enough to be his father....

I haven't seen the movie, but from the description here, it seems doubtful. Since the bulk of the story is set in Baja California, much of the filming was done on nondescript desert back roads, with a Mexican town scene shot at the (now mostly destroyed) Old Tucson sets. If there was anything to do with Marines or a military installation, it must have been strictly in passing -- "blink and you'll miss it" stuff.
[Edit: I suppose they could have done some filming near the base at Twentynine Palms, which is pretty close to the middle of nowhere, but the locations aren't given in the IMDb entry.]

From the IMDb comments:
See! William Shatner sport a variety of things atop his head that only faintly resemble human hair (or anything organic for that matter).

I may have to rent this. It sounds like completely awful no-budget made-for-TV goodness, starring several actors who were killing time waiting for real jobs to turn up.
