You know, NiMH does run down by itself. In my experience it's charge doesn't last anywhere near as long as NiCd. You might getter better life from a lower capacity NiCd cell.
True, they're a bit leaky but they still work great for ordinary household uses like remotes, bicycle lights, door bells, keyboard & mouse sets, flash lights and portable stereo equipment -in my experience anyway...
And they don't have the same problem with charging a not entirely empty cell and can (in theory anyway) be charged many more times with no loss of performance.
