Honestly, I'm hoping that in episode 7 or 8 Burnham goes to the Admiral with some new discovery about the BDA(is that what Steamers called it this episode?) and he's just like:
"Oh! Didn't you hear? Captain Glarbofasreaun of the Lothbrok and his crew figured that all our yesterday. Yeah, they got caught in its event horizon and technobabled the technobable and now it's all good. What? You look surprised? Did you think only one Starfleet crew per generation was allowed to do that sort of stuff? Nah, we're allowed 3."

That's what I was thinking. From what we know of the Bajoran wormhole, there were some properties that were not the same with natural occurring wormholes, which could tie in to what Stamets is theorizing. Whatever it is, it seems like there's some design or intelligence behind it since its path is dynamic and unpredictable. Could be something related to the Prophets, or their arch-enemies, the Pah-Wraiths. It would make more sense for them to be this if non-linear time somehow factors into this.
arch101's theory about the Prophets definitely carries some weight, and I do agree. I also agree this entity could be the life form created when Decker merged with V'Ger in TMP, although I doubt that they'd revisit that one since TMP has not gotten a particularly good rap (though the Director's Edition cleans things up considerably). The anomaly itself could be an entity. What exactly, I don't know. Could the anomaly or the intelligence behind it have a malevolent intent, or are they not aware of what they're doing is causing so much destruction?
A DS9 callback wouldn't be a bad thing. I know many here rank DS9 at the top (I now rank it at a tie at the top with TNG).

I think it’s a sequel to TNG’s “Force of Nature”. And that the Federation did absolutely bupkis in addressing the tears in subspace cause by warp drive over the previous 800 years. And now these tears are threatening all life in the galaxy through anomalies.
Wasn't that one of the leading theories for the Burn?
I won't be too shocked if, Nexus-like it traps the souls of everyone it kills - giving more to Book seeing his nephew on his ship while investigating the anomaly.
Yup. And just like that, I'd guess that any explanation fans come up with for the origin of the anomaly will be just as wrong as that.
Ya know, its possible that the writers of Discovery didn’t realize that they can do follow ups to certain stories when they first wrote S3 and decided that they can revisit the idea at a later date.
A good deal of the writing is aimed at attracting a younger audience. And that may be where their focus is at first, and not TNG stories from 30 years ago.
