My Little Pony web invasion?

That is not the essence of the problem. Re-read the topic. If MLP fans didn't go on in an obsessive fashion in inappropriate places, nobody would have a reason to criticise, period. What is it you find so confusing about that?

I still fail to see how the Bronies were goinig on "in an obsessive fashion in inappropriate places". Outside the designated posts a vast majority of them were relatively low-key as far as I could see. Have some of them used MLP threadbombs in unrelated threads? Sure, but threadbombs are used all the time even if the show/situation/whatever they were created from has nothing to do with the topic at hand. As long as the pic/caption fits, what's so bad about it depicting Ponies?

P.S.: I'm not a Brony. I watched some episodes, they were O.K., but I'm not going out of my way to watch the show.

If it was any other show, there would not be any issue. People post quotes, avatars, signatures, and thread bombs from other shows without any problem. But for some reason, a show about ponies is seen as trolling, a meme, an attack for posters, or a symptom of some mental issue. Is it so shocking that the show might actually be good and that people genuinely love the show?

There are shows that I don't like, some I hate. But I don't go around saying that people shouldn't watch it or they should stop talking about it.

When the craze first started they did - it was like a rash but it's settled down now.

AwesomePossum--I think you may be misunderstanding what's meant by a meme (that is, assuming you're addressing my post, which I'm not sure of since I think I'm not the only one to use the word). In and of itself, that's not a pejorative term. I simply stated that this particular one gets on my nerves. I suspect I would say the same thing of anything else that makes it look like the Easter Bunny threw up. I think the same thing when women's clothes are all those colors in certain years. Yuck. I just do not like girly stuff most of the time.

I meant meme in the sense that some people act like we only post them because it is a meme. Just posting about it to post about it, like cat pictures.

For no reason:

That is all.

Remember the good ole' days from the first page where I asked everyone to keep the discussion limited to MLP:FIM as a web phenomenon (which is what the OP wanted to discuss) instead of ranting about the administrati and the Halloween name change issue? Granted, Bonz kind of blew that out of the water by responding to it (friggin' n00b ;)), and I can't exactly tell the boss to take it to QS&F, so here we are.

I was hoping the discussion could remain at least somewhat civil, but in typical Miscellaneous fashion it has devolved into a knock-down drag-out fight. For all the complaints about TNZ that make people who are not or are barely exposed to it feel qualified to pontificate on how bad it is, massive fights of this scale seem mostly limited to the stricter (in terms of rules) forum of Miscellaneous. There's something to be said for being able to call a person on their behavior freely so they can't repeatedly hide behind the protection of the rules.

As far as MLP goes, I am not a fan, but there are a lot of things I'm not a fan of. I was not a fan of the way a small number of MLP fans spammed the living hell out of the forum when the show/meme first became popular here and unfairly gave the rest of the fans a bad name. I am not a fan of the way certain MLP fans want to act as if they've suffered some great tribulation and are the new persecuted underclass of the internet.

That being said, people on the other side of the issue seem to be carrying on as if we are still at day one of this thing and nothing has changed. The people who were doing the most spamming have finally gotten the message and backed off from that a lot, and I thank them for it. They're also not "ramming MLP down our throats" nearly as much as someone suggested earlier. I think people need to recognize when a behavior has been curtailed and thus alter their own behavior accordingly.

Regardless, people on both sides of this issue need to get some perspective. It's not history's greatest tragedy that MLP has been mildly censored in one privilege (Halloween names) on one private forum, and being forced to see occasional (ie. not excessive) pony paraphernalia around the board is not like suffering a plague of locusts. Everyone get a grip.

Now, I'll leave this open for a little while longer in case anyone has a final word they want to POLITELY drop in the thread about the issues raised here. Maybe, if things can be civil it can even stay open. But this is not going to become the new bi-annual Miscellaneous Dramarama.

Which brings me to my next point. Locutus, can you point me to a higher-rez version of your av?

I just do not like girly stuff most of the time.

Neither do I, yet I love the show. I actually dislike pink as a colour but in this case I don't mind (and you'd be amazed how many different varieties of pink exist ). There are some elements in it that can be perceived as 'girly' but the show itself isn't overly girly. It's more of a family show and it's fun. I highly doubt it would appeal to so many different people - among them rather manly men (I hear there's also a substantial Brony population in the military) by the way - if it wasn't designed to do so. It's not everyone's cup of tea and that's fine.

I think I'll have to check this out to see what all the fuss is about. I'll use my daughter as camouflage when watching it just to be safe. I wouldn't want to appear creepy.

I have a suggestion. Can the next person to complain about "pony-related threadbombs everywhere" link to maybe five examples from this month? They shouldn't be hard to find (and using the TNZ thread is cheating!)

Even at the height of the Browncoat phase people weren't posting thread-bombs and Browncoat related material everywehre.

Threadbombs weren't a thing back then. Firefly came out in 2003. Free image hosting was hardly common, and most of our connections were slower. Even when Serenity came out in 2005, LOLcats wouldn't be invented for another year.

But while their weren't images, there was plenty of textual references. There's probably a solid year of the board where the words "special hell" were written more than "star trek."

And come to think of it, you're also the guy who, in his exuberance, managed to spoil me for both of the deaths in the movie, after months of successfully avoiding pre-screening blabbermouths, so don't pretend to be some kind of paragon of restraint when it comes to chattering heedlessly about something you like in unrelated threads.

Well we did post several in the Troll thread in TNZ but does it count if everyone was playing along and enjoying it?

We can agree on that, and yes, I love baseball. :D

Vist the baseball thread next year. We could use a little non Red Sox/Yankees/Giants talk.

So we'll talk about the Cincinnati Reds. I don't know how long that will last, but I will check it out.

...

Then there's the slight bestiality aspects of it some aspects of the fandom have taken (someone once had an avatar suggesting cunnilingus between the two characters, another posted an up-skirt/school girl picture of one of the ponies) and then there's the phraseology from it people spout all of the time, namely "Friendship is magic."

...

That would be me, and that particular av was very tongue in cheek and done as a joke. Also, if it's between two anthro animals having sex, it's not bestiality, to them it's just "sex". Remember, you're an animal too. That said, I'm a furry. I like anthropomorphic animals, and I don't hide that.

Besides, the naked Kirk/Spock bath avatar got no warnings or problems. And that was between two aliens, well to each other they are.

Oh, sex between aliens happened all the time on Star Trek, from TOS up to ENT, and not once was there a claim of bestiality as far as I can remember.

Well the business with the huge cum-alien in Enterprise wasn't a picnic for anybody :wtf:

I see what you did there.

Danke. :D

I must have missed something.
