Changing names on Halloween is like dressing up for Trick or Treat-- people don't just dress up as ghosts and goblins, they also dress up as superheroes and Disney princesses.

The problem is, they were not changing to MLP because they felt like it for Halloween. They were pissed at me and were doing it to protest.

Well, actually, we were doing it because we felt like it for Halloween. Granted, I can't tell what went through the heads of everyone who requested a MLP name but the general idea was to sort of dress up as characters from the show for Halloween. The original idea is still in the Brony Thread in TNZ. The issue at the heart of the resulting controversy was that you perceived the requests as some sort of trolling and considering that most of them dropped in in one rush in the name request thread I can see in hindsight how it could be perceived as such. Of course, then it soon escalated from there on both sides. But at the heart of it there was a fundamental misunderstanding and I hope it can get cleared up some day. All I can do is to assure you that it was a perfectly innocuous request on my part and I believe on the other Bronies' parts as well (if you look at the people making the requests you'll find that nearly all of them are good posters and certainly not troublemakers).

Edit: You talk about the poor mods and admins being forced to take it seriously, like they have to ref some horribly juvenile disagreement between two sides.

That's exactly what is happening here. The drama is just so over-the-top. "We're being persecuted for loving a children's pony show!" Well, Cowboy up, Cupcake. It's a tough world out there. I'm sure one of your pony shows must have dealt with overcoming adversity, right?

If you enjoy the show (or any show for that matter), more power to you. I don't care.

I don't think anyone's really complained about being persecuted. But if you're talking about over-the-top drama, how about Bonz flipping out over Halloween names?

There's an absurdist quality to all of this I find fascinating, but I really don't care about any of it beyond that. I'm sorry for making it worse.

Sure, he evaded his taxes, and yeah, he was involved in gambling as Manager of the Reds, but there are baseball players who have done worse and they're in the Baseball Hall of Fame! Pete has earned that. What he's got against him is a grudge, one that will likely outlive him.
