I absolutely see your point.My latest strategy is to make it easier to copy the images, but with the attribution on them. It's sort of a paradox that by making it harder to copy them you force the user to use graphic editing tools, so they're likelier to get modified.
This has been a much bigger problem with some of my other work. What happens is that the images show up unattributed in so many places that people assume they're not copyrighted - which might be one reason the low res images get reproduced and even printed on merchandise.
