Out of curiosity, have you ever tried to kitbash designs from unofficial sources like the FASA RPG and tech manuals? Forbin does some excellent work in that regard, and I know a good resource for the FASA ships. Most of the Fed ones are not great because they're fairly poor kitbashes, but they did a better job with the Klingon and Romulan fleets.

No, never have, though the Tiberius was allegedy very much like a FASA ship, at least that's what someone said after it was done. I usually kitbash whatever trips my trigger, I don't go out of my way to make what someone else has designed. I like to create my own things. I've got a space station I'm working on that's going to really blow some old school fans away.

Well, would you like the link to the FASA site anyway? Just to have some other ship ideas? It's worth saying that a lot of the images have been modified and redesigned from the originals, both to improve the quality and to make up for some of the bad kitbashes. You might want to check the Ship Schematics site for the originals.

I'm always willing to learn more, or see more, but my kitbashes are really something that comes from my own inspiration rather than the designs of others.

For what it's worth, I'm not entirely happy with the alterations to some of the ships myself. I understand what the author of the site is going for, and the original designs are not great. But at the same time, I don't feel comfortable with the idea of completely altering a ship just because you don't like it. I gladly accept any sort of feedback on my own custom work (which is pretty limited), but I would not want someone to voice their criticisms by altering my designs.

Well, it's not mine. I'm just another frequent browser. But it is a nice resource because the FASA stuff is very hard to find nowadays. I almost got the Klingon SRM off eBay once, but got outbid.

Though these are not trek, they are Sci-Fi and they are models and I guess you could call it a form of art... I'm sure the art department at most studios think so... Anyway... some recent updates on some of my model work.

I added one of the capes to Darth today, after painting it and forming it. I soaked the vinyl cape in hot water and formed it the way I wanted it, then ran it under cold water and let it dry. I modified the stance a bit more and really think I've got it where I want it.

Just got the Stormtrooper today. Great kit, excellent detail. I still can't get over how bad the detail is on the Trek kits. Has anyone else had these problems?
