My daughter's review of "Arena"

The Squire of Gothos

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
The Gorn "A monster."
The stuff Kirk gathered to make his gun "Sweeties."
And the Metron? "Princess."

And that's about it. She's coming along though, she used to think the Enterprise was going to fly out of the TV at her when she was younger

Great review! Succinct and yet gets right to the essence of the episode! (please don't tell us your daughter is 42 years old though, as that might change my opinion of the review *grin*)

When my sisters were very young (just learning to talk), they referred to "Star Trek" as "Captain." Because each "Star Trek" show (we watched them all - TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, and the TOS movies) shared one common element - they each featured a Captain.

So whenever they wanted to watch Star Trek, they'd say "Wan' watch Captain!"

I don't suppose that Kirk brags too much about the time he defeated the Gorn with his dreaded "sweetie" gun.

Two and a half, been watching since she could focus, listening to the theme tune as soon as she could hear ;)

Not that I sit her in front of the TV and leave her there all day though, it was a bit of a moment to share really. Made all the nicer by the fact that Rosa can now open the DVD player to pop a disc inside :)

My niece used to call TNG "Captain" when she was little. She's now 22 and completely disinterested in all things Trek, as is her 18 year old sister (they love Harry Potter). I'm old.

You know, there's a part in this ep that always makes me laugh. When Kirk and the Gorn captain are first fighting, the Gorn grabs him. Kirk puts his hands on the area above the Gorn's eyes, kind of its temples, and pushes him back hard, which makes the Gorn release Kirk then yell in pain. Every time I see that, I get a laugh out of it, don't know why! -- RR

I have an anecdote that's very tenuously tied to this thread, and only because it involves my daughter and Trek.

When she was a toddler, we were watching DS9. When Quark had a closeup, she walked up to the screen and tried to put her doll bottle in his mouth. I guess she thought he looked thirsty. I felt like leaving the smudge on the screen for posterity, but I didn't.

But if your animated avatar is any indication, you started her on career training early... she should grow up to be VERY good at the shell game! *grin*

Here's my review of "The Alernative Factor"!

Good Lazarus: "creepy man."

Bad/crazy Lazarus: "BAD man."

Special effects: "laughable...and make bad thoughts and dweams come."
