MY CHILDHOOD or things you find online...

The shows I remember watching as a kid in Chicago and have found some online are from the 1950s. Children's shows like Howdy Doody, Pinky Lee's show, Kukla, Fran and Ollie, Friendly Giant, Garfield Goose, and Ding Dong School (educational show), game shows like Masquerade Party, daytime shows like Today with Dave Garroway, 15 minute network newscasts from Chicago, and a women's show hosted by Arlene Francis called Home.

Ooh, nostalgia thread! I'll try not to spam too many YouTube links. :p

There's the Disney Afternoon shows of course. DuckTales, Rescue Rangers, Talespin, Darkwing Duck.

This is why reading was awesome:

And why environmentalism kicked ass:

Lesser-known PBS series that I loved:

Also, holy shit!

I remember this scaring the shit out of me when I was a child, way more so than the actual drug and alcohol abuse going on around me...

Hah, I'd never seen that before I think. The idea of a massive crossover like that is kind of awesome though. Needs more Optimus Prime and Rescue Rangers though. :p

And since we're now in the month of Halloween, this was an integral part of my childhood and premiered on network television right before my fifth birthday.

To this day it's one of the scariest and most effective horror films of any kind that's ever aired. For 1979 and a television budget this thing was lavish and rivalled or even topped most of the big screen efforts of that era.

And of course, you can't grow up in the 80s with some toy commercials...uh I mean Saturday morning cartoons:

The best Saturday Morning Cartoons. :bolian:
Oh, here is a BIG ONE from my childhood, being a kid who grew up on PBS:

That ident used to terrify me as a child. Mostly because I actually lived in London and was scared the city was about to implode or something. :guffaw:

Some people didn't see racism in "Code of Honor."

It has nothing to do with racism. It is just an incredibly shitty episode.

That episode is just pure unadulterated shit that would have been considered bad even during Season 3 of TOS. I used to think "Shades of Grey" was the all-time worst episode of Next Gen due to it being a sloppy, incredibly boring stock footage show filmed during a Hollywood writers' strike, but "Code of Honor" might just be the worst script in the entire seven-year run of the series.

I think this is all of our childhoods:

They apparently watched The Simpsons edition of this...

I remember a great many of those videos.

In another direction, I have bought some items off ebay I had as a child.

4 Soma cubes
A Merlin electronic game
A Spirograph set (the big one)
Slinkys

I've had my eye on some classic Creepy Crawlers kits too.

Sid and Marty were masters of their particular art, even if their medium was frequently cheese.

Sunday night was Disney, followed by Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.

I also loved Time for Timer PSAs:

Sunshine on a stick

Marlin Perkins...the original gangsta.

"While Jim is down in the jungle wrestling a 900-foot anaconda using only his nose, I'm up here in the studio drinking gin and tonic and talking to the TV camera."
