MW3

Long distance throwing of grenades is no doubt largely borne of experience. Grenade mechanics have been the same since CoD4 - you learn how much to cook them or not and pinpoint accuracy is just a matter of practice, hence if you've been lobbing frags since CoD4 then you've probably got it down by now.

The ease of avoiding grenades, to put that point into its true context was specifically around that map, and the start of the game. Avoiding frags at the beginning of Dome at the A flag is easy. Either don't rush forward, or whack up your trophy system etc, although as I said, I don't think I've ever been damaged further than a hit marker at that point anyway. For the rest of the game, and on other maps, yes grenades kill you, but my personal experience of MW3 is that this is no better or worse than previous versions of the game.

The example about Dome was just that particular match the way it started. My general comments about "magic grenades" can and does happen at any time on any map. There's no way to avoid them when they happen randomly.

For example, I was on Outpost the other day, in the middle of a TDM, when I suddenly died. I'm like WTF? I watch the killcam, a guy completely out of my line of sight (and vice versa I was completely out of his line of sight as verified by his point of view on the killcam) simply through a grenade up in the air and it just magically landed right on top of me. I'm running blind eye, assassin and have a silencer on my weapon. There were none of my other teammates in the vicinity, and I was coming from a direction that was impossible for him to see me coming. So there was no way in hell he could know I was there. So that's not practice, that's him throwing a random grenade and bullshit programming to make the grenade come DIRECTLY to me. (Either that, or he was cheating in some manner) And it's beyond me why the programmers at IW think that's a good idea.

As for better or worse than previous versions, again we'll have to agree to disagree. I'll agree it's no worse than MW1, but it's way worse than MW2.

Ridiculous. Look, some people throw random grenades, and every once in a while they'll kill you. It's not the end of the world. The grenades aren't programmed to chase you. Some grenade tosses are more luck than others. People will toss grenades towards high traffic areas in the middle of the map. The maps are small, shit happens.

If it's bothering you that much, throw on Blast Shield and grenades will be even more survivable than they already are.

Well again, we'll have to agree to disagree. I know what I've experienced, but whatever, you don't believe me and there's nothing I can do about that. Sorry I brought it up.

For me at least, it's not a matter of disbelieving you. We can only go off of our own separate experiences with the game.

Personally, I don't seem to have anywhere near the same problems with grenades that you obviously have. For that I'm thankful. :)

Anyway - I seem to be reclaiming my life back from the game at the moment - not been on it for 3 days now.

It's not hard to make a grenade land on a specific spot in the map. Trust me, there are a lot more grenades randomly tossed that don't hit anyone than end up killing people. I think if a 'hack' was out and common, it would be common knowledge on the COD forums I follow.

In fact, I saw something in a kill cam that looked like to me that a guy threw 2 flashbangs, but I told myself, no I just didn't see it right. But last night I used a flashbang and a few moments later, in the same life, I suddenly had another flashbang in my inventory. I was under the impression that can you only have one lethal and one tatical device in your inventory at a time and that they didn't restock. So I don't know what the hell is going on with that, but if there's some kind of glitch with that, it might explain the increase in flashbangs I've seen recently.
You've always had 2 flash/ concussion grenades per life.

As others have pointed out though, they're easily avoided, .

Well I wish to hell I knew how you guys are "easily avoiding" the grenades. Just the other day I was about to post how I was sick of the "sticky grenades" and I don't mean Semetex. I'm talking about grenades that come flying out of nowhere, landing magically at your feet, and blowup without getting the grenade symbol. And yes that happens A LOT.

I was in a lobby the other day and I heard two guys talking about this very issue, one of them making essentially the same point that I'm making here about grenades finding you. The other guy, who I totally admit may have been talking totally out of his ass, claimed that IW intentially programmed so that when grenades hit the ground, they would roll towards the nearest guy.

Is he full of shit? I don't know, but my game play experience totally supports what he's saying because I've had that happen to me numerous times. And I know that at least one other guy has had the same experience, so it's just not me.

Between the "magic grenade effect" and players having the ability to become the second coming of Tom Brady when they throw grenades, (throwing grenades for long distances with pinpoint accuracy) it really ruins a lot of the fun FOR ME. Your mileage may vary.

Do you have ELITE? If you do, and someone is getting an "unfair" # of nade kills-look up their stats. I'm like one kill for every 10 grenades thrown. But if you die 10 times, that means you have ten grenades so....:techman:

I did not know that, I seldom use them, and it's not like they give you any kind of manual to go with your game anymore. At least that explains the sheer volume of flashbangs I encountered in that one game. Odd that I never noticed that before, either in my own inventory, or being double flashed by somebody else.

Two thoughts after playing today... first, there needs to be a better way to report hackers on the PC. Having to go into Steam, find the list of players you've recently played with, figuring out which one was the bad guy, and reporting him is a pain in the ass. I would love to have a way to report folks in-lobby, especially since players can easily change their names and make finding them in the "recently played with" list that much more difficult. I can live with not being able to find/ report hackers if it's not a huge thing, but I can't leave well enough alone when guys turn into game-breakers.

Played against a guy tonight who was a serious game braker... all of his weapons were full-auto, including sniper rifles and pistols, and he didn't have to aim. All he had to do is fire his weapon in a direction, and if he could see any part of you (gun barrel, pixel, shadow, whatever) you were instantly dead. His name was mostly symbols that you can't easily make on the keyboard, but I couldn't find him when I tried to look him up. I think I reported the right guy though... his main handle was "Troll", he had screengrabs of wall hacks in his steam account, and the timestamps made it look like the guy changed his name in between every game. I probably spent more time trying to find this guy to report him than actually playing this morning.

Second thing is that I finally got back up to level 60.... and I remembered why I love that MK14 as much as I do. I was boning the opponents 6 ways to sunday with that thing. Normally, I'm fairly pleased with a K/D of 1 for a game. With that thing, I was averaging 1.5-2. I think I'm unlocking that at my next prestige... I can live without my Stinger for a while in exchange for this.

Reading this i'm glad that my notebook can't handle MW3 and i chose the 360 version.. at least there if you're owned it means you are either so bad or the other one is so good.

What i find irritating though is when i play missions like Kill confirmed or Domination that my teammates are not interested in the objective at all.. i've seen them run past dog tags from people they've killed to score other kills.. newsflash moron! We need those points to win and not who shot the most! :scream:

Yeah, after the amount of hackers in MW2 on PC, I was in no hurry to grab MW3 for it. And with my Xim3, I get the mouse controls that I love. Despite my PC being a dozen times as powerful as a lowly 360, I'm guessing it keeps a better frame rate than what my PC would do.

I don't play Kill Confirmed very much. I notice I do pretty well if I go Run N Gun SMG style, picking up tags as I go... but with ARs I like to circle around a bit, using tags to lure people, before I feel confident that the area is clear enough for me to make my pickups.

I definitely notice the people that have seemingly zero interest in claiming tags or winning the game. That happens in all objective games, that's why I play TDM most of the time. Seems more honest :)

people are like that in MW2 objective games, particularly sabotage and demolition, no one i've played in those types seems to give a shit about planting the bomb, and only defuse it if someone does manage to plant.

domination and CTF are better...

+1 The first and most valuable thing any player can learn is that DYING DOES NOT MATTER. You must be immune to it or you'll never get any better. If you flinch, or feel shit, or ragequit, you're not playing the game correctly. The game is about getting the most kills in before you're killed. *Most* kills have nothing to do with player skill (you get the drop on them, generally). The difference comes by being patient, coordinating with your team, and playing smart. The rest is reflexes. But the most important thing is to not even worry about getting blown up by a grenade. Just hit X and KEEP GOING.

another important thing is not to give a shit about your KDR. i don't all i care about is getting kills, getting streaks, winning matches and completing challenges.

Liberation - Meh

Defies logic - it's a pretty open map yet yields even more cynical camping spots than Downturn. How they've managed that I'm not entirely sure.

Piazza - very nice to look at, but basically a map of twists and turns, tight corners. Played it 4 or 5 times now and every game's the same - everyone running around with akimbo FMGs or the Striker, or both.

On the basis of these two maps, I think I've wasted money going premium with elite.

Haven't gotten a chance to play the maps too much. What the hell is up with the playlists that add the new maps along with all the old one. Oh the joy of backing out of game after game just to get at your new content. And no FFA? Seriously? That's the perfect way to learn a new map.

I kind of like Liberation so far. But the spawns are atrocious (yeah, what else is new). Still, at least it feels open, and I can bust out the sniper rifle without feeling stupid about it.

Piazza, yeah, a twisty run n gun mess so far.

I'll see how they evolve. It's taken a lot of hours of gameplay, but I've decided that Resistance and Lockdown are the best maps, and Mission and Downturn are the worst.

^^ The spawn points are a bit ridiculous on Liberation aren't they. There's one bit towards the back of the map where you go under a bridge. I go under, kill a guy, he spawns 5 yards from where he was and kills me, and then I spawn behind him and kill him again.

I like Resistance, but then, I also like Mission. Also like Bakaara. Largely because I can snipe all three. Close range maps of choice - Hard Hat, Lockdown and Arkaden.

The only maps that I truly loathe are Interchange and Downturn. I refuse to play them now.

I do like Bakaara and Hardhat as well, those plus maybe Carbon would be my next tier.

The spawns on Mission are extra bad. Yeah, there's a couple of places to snipe, but they're limited so as to not make it very interesting, and they're so head-glitchy as to be unfair to non-snipers. I don't like having to shoot at that back corner without being able to see an enemy 'just-in-case'. Also if you spawn on the low end it's just ridiculously easy to throw a grenade up into that alley to the right of the bridge and score cheap kills. Even easier and cheaper than spawn 'nades on Dome.

Back to Liberation for a sec... yeah. Bad spawns are a trademark of MW3, but it's extra stupid on a huge map like that. Literally my second spawn ever on that map... I get killed by a Predator missile. I respawn, I get instantly sniped. I watch the killcam, and I see the guy folding up his Predator laptop, and see me spawn right in his sights outside the window he's camping... It's so ridiculous that you know it was noticed in play-testing, so I guess they just don't care.

I am at the point where I am pining for the old school "one spawn point for each team and if you let the other team get to it well I guess you deserve to be spawn camped" system. It's more honest than getting fucked over in random fashion.
