MW3

I finally got the 'Elite' service working and I have to say I was extremely impressed. I'm thinking of going premium even WITHOUT the carrot of the new maps. Aw, who am I kidding- 9 content drops? Of COURSE I'm going premium!

^^ The maps are the only carrot of going premium. There's clan operations, but that's still not working. Elite TV would be pretty good but for some unfathomable reason, you can't watch it through the console app, you have to watch it online, and there it's just low-res embedded vids - not slick at all.

If you're sure that you'll be getting all the DLC then yeah, get premium. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

DLC Release schedule

12 maps
6 spec op missions
2 new game modes

Interestingly it says that the map pack in March will be across all consoles, ie. no 360 exclusivity.

Well, I think that's me done with the game.

Since the update it's become completely unplayable for me. On a permanent 2-bar or 3-bar connection for every game now. That coupled with the absolutely moronic 'rebalancing' that they've done with shotguns and machine pistols just makes it completely impossible for me to have anywhere approaching a decent game. Let's see, now I get mega-lag, and you've nerfed the only weapons that I'd have a chance with of going toe-to-toe with people running around with the Striker. Thanks.

The shotguns have been nerfed by reducing their rate of fire. Great idea, except you can still spam-fire the Striker so it makes no difference. In fact the only difference the update has had is in making the Striker completely unparalleled now. Excellent 'balance', well done. Fcukwits.

Traded at the weekend I think.

I, for one, welcome the continued raping of the machine pistols. Stupid things still make my life hell. The shotguns, while occassionally annoying, haven't become a huge issue for me yet.

I wonder if it ever crosses the minds of the game designer/programmers that if something has to be balanced/rebalanced all the time, that maybe it should be left OUT of the game in the first place (like dual machine pistols for example)?

Just a thought.

I can understand how it's not an exact science... what if you don't take away enough power or add too much power to a weapon? Then you're going to have to ramp it back down. Or what if you take away something's power so much that you're better off trying to club someone with it? They'll have to crank it back up again. I can't really use shooters as an example, but if you look at RTS games, how many times is a single unit powered up or weakened throughout the patching lifetime of a game? I swear there are some games where 2 or 3 units are involved in every patch because the designers are trying to finetune the unit to be just right.

Though I must admit that sometimes I have to wonder if some of the complaints about a gun being turned too weak by a rebalancing is just someone being upset that they can't run around raping and pillaging anymore.

Perhaps, but the changes they make aren't in a vaccum. Even if they get gun A where they want it, any change they make to other aspects of the game, whether it be other guns or perks or attachments, run the risk of throwing things out of balance. If the goal was to get Gun A to a specific point, then they probably would have gotten it right in the first try. But they're trying to balance everything. Besides, in the case of what you're describing (the machine pistols), this is the first time they've tried this specific change- they've only targetting dual FMG's previously, while this latest patch is nerfing all of the dual-wields.

My problem isn't with the akimbo weapons being nerfed per se, it's that they've done it but effectively left the Striker untouched, which means all those annoying twats who were running around with it prior to the last patch to great success are now going to be even more unstoppable. They've nerfed the rate of fire on shotguns - great, but that means absolutely nothing where the Striker's concerned as you can just spam fire the thing.

It always seems to be the same problems with CoD - awful spawning, unbalanced weapons, and lag of some description - you have to wonder how much of this would be shown up in public beta testing so that it can be fixed before its actual release. Sadly, Activision don't see the sense in beta testing any more so we're left to suffer when they release a less-than-polished game onto the market, which then takes months to fine-tune.

I really don't think they know what to do about lag comp. Bowling insists that it only affects the host but that's BS.

Well I was thinking it was just me, but I have noticed a definite uptick lately in striker activity. It is damned annoying, but for me it's not as high on my list of annoyances as other things.

I thought of an interesting exercise or poll if you will. IF you were God of the gaming world and could change this game any way you saw fit, what would you do? I'm interested in what the regulars here think, what they like and what they don't like. In the context of this question, think about the game YOU would like to play, not what you would think would be popular/unpopular with others.

I'll start with my fantasy wish list:

1) Eliminate all explosives including flashbangs and what not.
2) Eliminate all scopes. Red dot sights are fine
3) I would change the knifing animation so that if you're getting shot in the process of knifing, it would break the knifing animation, or cause you to pause or go off course (This is probably the most ridiculous thing about MW, being able to run through a hail of bullets to knife somebody).
4) Disable the jump button. You can climb over obstacles, but none of this ridiculous Rambo bunny hopping shit.

So what do you all think? What's yours? I realize in my case, 1 & 2 are pretty extreme, but a minimum, I really wish they would offer this as game play type. It's pick up your favorite gun and go slug it out.

1)Get rid of quick-scoping. Seriously.... if you're gonna use a scope, look down the damn thing.

2)Bigger maps. This would be nice because, in theory, the spawns might be slightly less broken and you wouldn't have every man, woman, and child bunched up into one small area.

3)New anti-hack features. My favorite would be if the system detects something wrong with the coding involved with a player, it wouldn't kick that player off. Instead, it would let them play, but every single time that player causes any sort of damage to another player, he blows up and has 2 deaths counted against him. This would kill their KDR and it would make it easy to identify who's cheating. And it would make all of their fun toys useless because they can't stay alive long enough to do anything unless they load up on one-shot kills.

Most annoying thing to me is camping.. i'd introduce a system where, if you remained still (or within a very small area) for more than say 5 seconds, you'd appear on the minimap (unless you have a sniper weapon in hand)

Remove the Akimbo system.. it's just dumb and game unbalancing

Let people set preferences for maps so they can "train" a certain map and avoid others in the random games the game finds for you.. i personally hate Outpost and Carbon and would deactivate those maps for me if i could

Qick Scoping is also gone.. you can only fire after the animation has finished and you can see through the scope. Alternatively just fix this "glitch" finally!

Invulnerabilty for 3-5 seconds (maybe shorter) after respawning to prevent spawn point camping

These would be my immediate measures.

Edit:
Had an awesome game on Mission yesterday.. i was on fire, hitting people left and right and could not miss. Finished 26-20, won the Kill Confirmed game, was top scorer and was so proud that i saved the replay and uploaded it to one of the slots

well, speaking of MW2, rather than 3, i'd:

remove jumping and make you have to crouch before going prone.

remove akimbo weapons.

remove the fucking G18

make anyone who spends more than 20 seconds in a 4 metre circle show up on the minimap and after 45 seconds start glowing bright yellow and after 60 seconds get an automated Predator missile dropped on them with no warning and the kill credited to the last player they shot. if they're inside, then a Claymore mine would appear next to them and detonate.

Fix the spawns... I bet anyone who has ever played Liberation (one of the new Elite maps that's currently Xbox only) has had this sequence happen. Kill someone at the underground entrance in the dry riverbed. Have them immediately respawn at the bridge at the end of the map, and die to them 2 seconds later... spawn in that same spot, and kill them one second later when they're halfway to the underground entrance. So fucking stupid.

I also literally spawned in the middle of a dude's screen on that same map. He didn't even have to aim, just ADSed his sniper rifle, and that was the end of my 0.4 second life.

Oh, and I'm sure I've said it before, but Dead Silence needs to go. Making you completely silent when running around is just retarded. What next, a perk that makes you invisible? And yes I know it's been in pretty much all these games, but complete silence that's not counterable in any fashion is bullshit.

Seeing as most quick-scopers are only doing it to get footage for their you tube montage, turn it off in core modes and only have it enabled in private matches as a toggle option. Then we're all happy.

Spawning - allow people to choose their spawn point like in BF.

Map rotation - allow people to choose the game mode and the map like in BF.

Dedicated servers - then they can stop dicking around with lag comp.

Public beta testing - let's try and get as many issues as we can fixed before its actually releasex and not afterwards.

Merc lobbies - sick of playing solo and being put on a team full of retards against an organised clan.

Gold camo - make it harder to get, like in cod4. Way too easy in mw3.

Non-stackable killstreak rewards, it just makes people camp.

No overpowered shotguns/akimbo weapons.

Popped CoD4 in just to see how that was faring these days - surprisingly well was the answer.

On the 360 version.

Straight into a game, full lobby (6 vs 6), no You Tube hack, no glitching and no lag. Ran like a dream compared to my current experience with MW3. Most importantly, no twats running around shotgun spamming and no akimbo raping either.

Of course I might just have got lucky and found decent lobbies for an hour, but that's more than I've found on MW3 for a couple of weeks.

taking out stacked killstreaks is unfair to people (like me) who have their streaks as something like 3/4/5 or 4/5/6 and get the last two kills in quick succession, such as with a double kill.
