MW3

There are enough old CoD-hands here, that I'm sure one of us has mentioned this already somewhere along the way, but it's worth reiterating either way;

Pick the gun to suit the map.

Picking a sniper rifle on something like Dome for example is going to end badly for you, unless you're a d1ck-scoper.

Any tight maps like Dome or Bootleg, you're probably as well going with an SMG, or a shotgun, although I steer clear of those myself.

Maps like Bakaara, or Mission, I like to snipe as there are some good long distance opportunities on those maps.

Alternatively, you find a lot of the time that specific weapons work to varying degrees on different parts of the main map, ie. Mission - some really long straights by the A and C flags, but stay away from B. Underground - lots of tight turns if you stay in the buildings or out and about around the train carriages, ie. use an SMG.

If you're insistent on running around the entire map then the best bet is to generalise, and there's no better class of weapon for doing that than the assault rifle.

Another thing - don't get obsessed with the weapon stats - or at least make sure you're not mis-reading them. It's easy to base your selection on 'damage', but it really needs the context of 'rate of fire' as well. It's possible that a weapon with a lower damage stat is actually more deadly because the rate of fire is so much greater.

All this being said though, you will find that your performance or experience may vary from game to game as the hosting on MW3 is supposed to rotate and not stick with just one person game after game. Hence, the performance may change from game to game equally.

I am having a devil of a time getting 'Call of Duty Elite' working. I can get it working on my xbox but the app refuses to ever connect, and the actual website just says: "
Welcome to Call of Duty Elite! Please login or sign up above to Connect, Compete, and Improve." ... and this is AFTER I've logged in.

Any advice?

^It's a bitch to navigate and a little hard to find things if you haven't already figured out where to go. I'm not sure how it works on X-Box, but if you go in through the internet, after you log in, you'll have a drop down menu near the top left labeled "My Account". Select that, and you can connect your gaming profile and info from the "Profile" option and you can look at stats, maps, weapon info, etc from the "ELITE" option in that menu.

Once you've prestiged 10th, you're just left with double xp, double weapon xp, custom class, unlock equipment and the reset all stats - if you've unlocked the callsign packs.

When I get to 10th, I'd only consider resetting all stats if it's going to be extremely difficult to improve my stats to a level befitting of someone who has played legit throughout. I pride myself on playing properly and not taking advantage of exploits or overusing weapons that need nerfing (Striker). Unfortunately, this mantra results in inconsistency as matches go. It's usually impossible to beat someone who has played time with the Striker in medium to close range - therefore I have to resort to sniping.

I like to balance my gameplay with all types of combat - close, medium and long range. But the only way of ensuring a fair to good game is to play long range and be extremely careful, not because the other players are skilled, but because many of them take advantage of the games unbalanced weapons and exploits.

pp90m1/rapid fire. Screw those guys w/the Striker.

Good grief the grenade spam has gotten ridiculous. I'm playing Dome, the game just starts, I don't take two steps and I'm instantly hit by two flashbangs. It's just ridiculous, that shit ruins the game for me. I'm pretty close to refusing to play that much going forward.

Overall a bad night for me. Started out with an overall 0.75 K/D ratio, and I don't how many points I lost before it was all over. Talk about a bullet sponge, couldn't do ANYTHING on any map with any weapon. Few more nights like that and this game will be on Ebay.

I hate flash/ concussion grenades. I'm more likely to hit myself than the enemy, and on the occassion I do hit the other guys, I either can't get in fast enough to make it count for anything, or I can't get a direct enough hit to make it worth it. I mainly toss them and the EMP grenades around for the challenges and the free XP.

That's how DOME tends to start. Try pausing for a moment at the beginning, then running towards the docks if you Dome-spawn, or race over to the Dome from the Humvee side. Just remember to toss a frag into the dome if you start on the second spawn point-SOMEONE will be in there.

Tossing all your lethals and tacticals right at the start of Dome is one of its joys. The spam isn't really a problem in general with this game. The explosives are pretty weak in general, nobody uses grenade launchers, and you can't replenish tacticals with Scavenger.

If it really bugs you, you can always bust out the Trophy System. I've taken to doing that, mostly because tossing flashbangs seems to always get me killed... Just run forward a little at the start of Dome, put down a Trophy and camp under it for 5 seconds.

Another use for the Trophy is that I can plunk one down in case of a Predator. See those red circles pop up on your minimap and you're outdoors? Run towards your nearest teammate to bait it while taking out the Trophy. If they go for you the Predator will go *poof*, and the poor chump will have go get his Attack Helicopter legit  If the Predator doesn't target you, just pick your Trophy back up so you're ready for the next one.

If you can't beat them, join them? No thanks, if that's the way I've got to play, I'll just quit.

I'm not sure why the makers of MW even bother to make all these gun types when everybody just wants to run around throwing random grenades in the air. Silly me, I thought I was getting a shooter.

Agreed for the most part, although the RPG is still totally lethal.

Re 'nade spam - MW3 has nothing on CoD4. Domination on Wet Work used to be fun, especially with everyone heading to the B flag in the middle at the start of games, and then everyone lobbing 3 frags onto it!

What join? Outsmart. Did I say chuck random nades? No, I did not. Read. Understand. Grow.

You're making grenade spamming sound like it's a much bigger issue than it really is. Plenty of folks still use grenades, sure, but they're not constantly flying. And, as has been pointed out above, the grenades are nerfed enough that they aren't even much of a threat (though I still get my jollies out of sneaking up behind someone and semtexing him. That's always good for a laugh or two). I would guess that if there's any reason for grenades to be flying, it's for folks trying to use Recon, and get to Recon Pro.

Throwing a grenade and hoping someone is there is throwing a random grenade. No matter how you slice it.

No offense, but you weren't in the match I was in, and YES they were CONSTANTLY flying.
That's the key right there.... I wasn't in the MATCH you were or I wasn't playing with the GROUP OF PEOPLE you were. It was an issue for you that night, but you're reacting like it's a neverending problem that's completely screwing up the game. Really, it's just an occassional issue that's annoying.

I think you're reading more into my comments than what I said. It's one map in particular (Dome) that seems to be a problem every time I play it now. But I see that I mistyped what I meant and why you might think I said something I didn't mean to say. I said I wasn't "going to play that MUCH anymore" when I meant to type was "I'm not going to play that MAP (Dome) anymore." Because yes for that map, it has become a consistent issue.

But in general, we're just gonna have to agree to disagree. Because for some reason, in the last few days, I've just noticed an increase in grenade activity across the board, with Dome being the absolute worst. If you're not seeing it, great. Consider yourself lucky. But don't presume to tell me what I am or am not seeing.

In fact, I saw something in a kill cam that looked like to me that a guy threw 2 flashbangs, but I told myself, no I just didn't see it right. But last night I used a flashbang and a few moments later, in the same life, I suddenly had another flashbang in my inventory. I was under the impression that can you only have one lethal and one tatical device in your inventory at a time and that they didn't restock. So I don't know what the hell is going on with that, but if there's some kind of glitch with that, it might explain the increase in flashbangs I've seen recently.

Depends on the game type I guess. I play Domination almost exclusively. Dome on that always starts the same way, an exchange of grenades. As others have pointed out though, they're easily avoided, although to be honest you don't have to try that much. I don't recall ever having being killed at the start on the A flag, despite grenades coming my way every time I start that map on A.

I suppose, to be fair though, it's the smallest map on the game, and it's always been that way on smaller maps. Shipment on CoD4 for example, especially when many people play that map with 3 frags in their armoury.

Better than MW2 IMO, where you could not only get grenades onto flags at the start of games incredibly easily, but also heavier artillery like grenade launchers and RPGs etc. Worst thing there was that it wasn't even the middle flag, you could get the opposition home flag on some maps - Underpass for example, and Scrapyard.

As others have pointed out though, they're easily avoided, .

Well I wish to hell I knew how you guys are "easily avoiding" the grenades. Just the other day I was about to post how I was sick of the "sticky grenades" and I don't mean Semetex. I'm talking about grenades that come flying out of nowhere, landing magically at your feet, and blowup without getting the grenade symbol. And yes that happens A LOT.

I was in a lobby the other day and I heard two guys talking about this very issue, one of them making essentially the same point that I'm making here about grenades finding you. The other guy, who I totally admit may have been talking totally out of his ass, claimed that IW intentially programmed so that when grenades hit the ground, they would roll towards the nearest guy.

Is he full of shit? I don't know, but my game play experience totally supports what he's saying because I've had that happen to me numerous times. And I know that at least one other guy has had the same experience, so it's just not me.

Between the "magic grenade effect" and players having the ability to become the second coming of Tom Brady when they throw grenades, (throwing grenades for long distances with pinpoint accuracy) it really ruins a lot of the fun FOR ME. Your mileage may vary.
