The music scores are an important part of any show, and in some instances silence can be very influential to a scene as well. In many cases they can make or break a scene by getting the audience emotionally involved.

So what are you favorite trek music scores?

Personally, the music from TWoK and TUC will always be near the top of the list.

For opening sequence, I'd have to go with voyager. In my mind it brought up images of wonder and exploration.

For certain scenes, I gotta say the Enterprise leaving spacedock in TMP, and that any time she left space dock they did a pretty good job.

I LOVE Star Trek music! I often listen to it while I work.

My favorite scores would have to be The Search for Spock, First Contact and Star Trek (XI).
And I agree with you, Klingon Ghoul, on the part with the Enterprise leaving Spacedock from TMP. That section of the movie gives me goosebumps every time I watch it.

For the opening sequence, I prefer the TNG one. The music is classic ST and Patrick Stewart's spoken intro is another major goosebumps source for me.:D

As for series music in general, I liked the music in DS9 best.

I have yet to hear bad music for Star Trek. Yes, I liked the music from Enterprise.

Some of my favorite musical cues include Battle in the Mutara Nebula and Genesis Countdown from TWOK, A Busy Man from TFF, (as well as the music heard while Kirk climbs up El Capitan), The Klingon themes from TMP and TSFS.

I love the music from The Inner Light from TNG. Beautiful stuff.

One of my favorites is Goldsmith's scores for "First Contact" and "The Motion Picture". Both introduce these beautiful themes mixed with obscure mechanical sounds. For some reason I really like that.

As for the series, I find myself drawn to TNG's Jay Chattaway's "The Inner Light" score and Ron Jones' work on "Best of Both Worlds". I have also enjoyed the original first season theme of DS-9, David Bell's score for DS-9's "Sacrifice of Angels" and Brian Tyler's score for Enterpise's "Regeneration".

I can't get the TAS music out of my head...I don't know if that's good or bad, but it is certainly memorable.

More often than not, if I notice the music in an episode, it's because it's good. When I don't think, "wow, this is a good score," it's usually just forgettable or buried in the background.

For series intro: Voyager, because the music conveys the sense of being alone and stranded in a strange part of the galaxy.

For episode: "The Inner Light" played on that flute is so very sad. This is my go-to episode when I am feeling depressed.

For movie score: The recently released Star Trek (2009) OST: The Deluxe Edition. Michael Giacchino is an amazing composer. His Academy Award attests to that. I also recommend The Incredibles OST.

I agree with Smurfula, the First Contact theme is incredible. It's my single favorite Trek theme. Jerry Goldsmith could do no wrong.

Some cues I liked:

The theme (used mainly during the battle) of The Siege of Ar-558

The music from the time Damar is giving his speech to end credits of The Changing Face of Evil

The Borg theme in Best of Both Worlds

Apart from being evocative I think that the signature tune for the Original Series was probably the weakest musically as it was just composed for "another TV series". After that they upped the ante and subsequent scores were all pretty good.

I cannot get enthusiastic about the theme for Enterprise and as I have said on here before I am surprised that Russell Watson risked his "operatic" voice to sing that theme. As a singer myself I would have found it a real strain on the vocal chords.

I expect a backlash in favour of TOS but that is my opinion.

I agree here, it's more Iconic then anything else.

I might be one of the few people that liked that song. Maybe not as the theme of the show, but in some way related to the show it would have been received better. But in my mind it fit with what I presumed to be the intended theme of the show, pushing the limits of human knowledge and imagination, and not letting anyone stop them.

Hi !
I've just visited this forum. Happy to get acquainted with you. Thanks.

My favorite soundtrack is Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.

Unfortunately, it's attached to a very bad movie.

Movies: Undiscovered Country and Motion Picture
Series: DS9 and Voyager
Also love the music to DS9 the Fallen game

Actually, I love pretty much all the film scores, with these exceptions:

Aisde from about five or six cues, TMP never managed to get me, like it did many Goldsmith fans.

Nemesis was so "blah" I left the theater not remembering a single piece of music fcrom it -- a first for any Trek film.

TUC had a number of good cues, but I think over half it is just there and if it weren't for the orchestrational skills used, people would be poo-pooing on the score like they do Hooper's Harry Potter efforts.

Far too many TV efforts to mention.
In a couple weeks I will have the glorious Jones Box. I haven't decided whether to skip to the episodes scores I always wanted, or save them for last. SOaB I want to hear "Who Watches the Watchers".

^ The only one I really like in TMP is when the enterprise left spacedock. All the rest seemed rather dull to me, although that could have been the movie itself... Don't get me wrong, I do like the movie. It does have a good store, but it is so painfully slow......

I agree with you 100%! :techman:
