MU Vanguard in Shards & Shadows

Well yes, I understand that, I just found the title rather intriguing - I rather doubted it would be an alternate Mirror Universe, but it's fun to speculate. Ain't it?

I know it costs money and all (imagine that) but why couldn't you put out an S.C.E. novel/anthology in MM/TB as an expirement and see how it does. But I'm not sure what the problem would be seeing as all the E Books end up that way anyway...

That's an interesting idea:

How about a future MU anthology which is all *different* Mirror universes? We've already got the current Myriad Universes works anyway. How about one that is all MU stories, just different MU's?

^That would still be a form of Myriad Universes, just with a focus on timelines that more closely resembled the MU's than our own.

It could be interesting, but we've already got at least 3 (Dark Mirror, the Shatnerverse, the DS9 Relaunch version)....I'm not sure there's a whole lot of other excitiing possibilities out there...but then, I'm not a Trek writer. :)

I'm more interested in stories of the kind we've already seen in Myriad Universes thus far, though.

And don't forget Dark Passions and the comic.

Sounds like what you're asking for is for them to reboot the MU. Doesn't seem all that interesting to me but to each his own I guess.

No, I don't mean that. It's just that we're getting all these alternate versions of the RU (which aren't reboots), why not do the same for the MU? The main book continuity of the MU could still be intact.

There are ten of them out there right now, with an eleventh on the way. They make great Christmas presents, by the way.

At once, Admiral Palmieri, Sir! *salutes* ;)

Hopefully we get a follow-up on Memory Omega. Though judging by the title, and the TNG-ish reference, I wonder if this could be something entirely different - a Mirror Universe story where the Terran Empire never fell, maybe?
Didn't David already state, that his story would follow up on his sleeper agent plot in Sorrows of the Empire? I believe it was in this very thread.

What I meant was that for whatever reason the E Books were put on "hiatus", why can't the serious just continue with original new stories as an MM instead of just canceling the whole thing?

I will go out on a limb here that they stopped the eBooks because they weren't making (enough) profit, so why should they produce new books at an even higher cost, while they haven't even caught up with what was already published electronically?

Having said that I certainly hope there's a a continuation of the line after the last reprint and if that's the case that it will remain under Keith's editorial supervision, because it's easily the most constant and best edited line in TrekLit.

Books do not just grow on trees (ok, I know they do, but so does money, yet we still say it dosn't) and if the ebooks were discontinued because no one actually bought them, and I can imagine that TPTB who decide which books to commision and spend money and resources on new publications have a list of series they want and Corps of Engineers is not a high priority to publish a brand spanking new MMPB and just because a few fans say they want one, won't mean it will get done.

That reason would be money, as in "The e-Book line did not make enough of it."

More people read the CoE stories in print form than ever did in e-Book form. Even if numbers didn't back that up (as reflected in the small rainforests which have been repurposed to provide my royalty statements) I can tell that much just from reading the various threads that cropped up in here from time to time, including the one where it was announced the line was going on hiatus. How many posts in there read something along the lines of "I never read the e-Books, but I liked getting the collections?"

I'm even willing to bet that a good number of folks who do pick up a CoE omnibus don't even know that the stories within it first saw publication in e-Book form. For them, it's something totally new.

As has already been said, any brand new CoE stories which might come about won't happen until after the original installments have been reprinted. That's not to say that any sort of planning for such a continuation won't start before the last batch is collected, but that planning will hinge entirely on the sales of the current and forthcoming collections.

So, start your Christmas shopping early this year! :techman:

And that in itself is another reason not to do new print CoE stories before finishing the reprints. It would be unfair to the print readers who haven't had the chance to get caught up with the whole series yet.

The original eBooks lost money. The only way the money was made back was in the print editions.

The hitch is, as reprints of previously published material, the threshold of success for those editions is lower than it would be for a newly published book in the same format (for example, Myriad Universes), because the author advance was already paid out the first time around.

So a brand-new CoE print book needs to do much better than the CoE books we're putting out now. That's why it's important for the future of the brand that the current trades, and those that follow, do well.

So essentially what you are saying is that if the reprints sell well and make profit for the company then continuing SCE in print form will be considered and reevaluated.
