MU Dukat

Given that the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance freed Bajor fro Terran oppression and that there are often weird parrallel between the two universes I wouldn't be surprised if there was an Indentant Dukat that pre-dated Kira. Maybe a man that was widely celebrated on Bajor, whose figure adorns many a statue across the planet.

That would be the height of irony. In the MU Dukat dies freeing the enslaved peoples of Bajor and they honor him with statues...

Yeah, for him to be REALLY loved by the Bajorans--I mean genuinely so, without his forcing it...that WOULD be amazing and ironic. I'd totally go for it.

I've always wondered about that, myself! But considering MU Garak wasn't exactly a good guy...I don't know that we could say MU Dukat would be likely to be any better.

Yeah, didn't Rom make a comment to that effect when he was obsessing over how calling it the "Mirror Universe" should mean everything is opposite when it wasn't in "The Emperor's New Cloak?"

That stuff was hilarious!

It'd be awesome if MU Dukat was this super nice guy who still had his family all together and didn't have a bunch of Bajoran "comfort" slaves and wasn't been on genocide.

Then we could all say look! Amazing! :o

LOL...that would be very very strange to see.

He lacked subtlety. Andrew J. Robinson said he really hated the mirror Garak because he saw him as nothing like the real Garak. I think he phrased it as something like "the MU Garak is just another Cardassian thug. RU Garak is all subtext. MU Garak has no subtext."

Well, Mirror Garak was originally meant to be Mirror Worf, but Michael Dorn wasn't available for the shoot [Obviously, when they eventually did a Mirror Worf, he was very different from their original plan].

Just had a thought...it would be entirely weird if the real universe Kira/Dukat dynamic was reversed...in other words, instead of Dukat having a weird thing for Kira, if Intendant Kira had something of an unhealthy interest in Dukat, and Dukat wanted no part of it.

Now there would be a completely opposite MU: Dukat, beloved of Bajorans, appalled by the advances of the Intendant...

EWWWW, yeah...that probably WOULD happen if the Intendant captured him. I mean, we've seen her Terran "comfort men"...

I'm gonna PM you really quick...there's something you ought to read.

One of the best parts about that episode...

^The MU human Vic Fontaine stuff was very weird, though. Wha?

So was the overall premise of Rom and Quark needing to deliver a cloaking device; because we've seen Alliance vessels decloaking in previous Mirror Universe stories.

I've always wondered about that, myself! But considering MU Garak wasn't exactly a good guy...I don't know that we could say MU Dukat would be likely to be any better. (I don't consider canon-universe Garak "good"...ambiguous at best.)

But I've done some writing on an AU Dukat that goes a VERY different direction, and man...it's pretty interesting! In Dukat's case it's particularly compelling to write because I think the canon-U Dukat really could've chosen either way--and something tells me he would be either great or ignoble: nothing in between.

This is a very interesting thread - I've wondered about that myself! Even though I have to say that I have huge problems with DS9's treatment of the MU - in short, I don't think that some of the MU characters make much sense as counterparts to the RU characters... not only do they have vastly different character traits (Kira vs The Intendant, Brunt vs MU Brunt), but they also seem to have different sexual orientation, whenever the writers feel like it. :vulcan: :wtf:

But be that as it may... it is still fun to try to imagine MU versions of characters that would sort of make sense. Trying to imagine an AU/MU Dukat is particularly interesting.

Nerys, I'd really love to see your writing of AU Dukat! Will check the fanfics...

Oh, I can totally see that - in fact, I was thinking along those lines, too!

It would also be fun to see crossovers all over the place as we've had with Sisko, Kira, Bareil etc... RU Dukat meeting The Intendant (oh my!), Kira meeting the MU Dukat... :)

I'm not sure DS9 did a good job of it. The changes in sexual orientation didn't make sense to me. But then again, I'm one of those who thinks it's biological, and that you don't consciously decide your orientation.

However, with the Ferengi, I think they were fairly consistent--that the MU versions were more generous.

But be that as it may... it is still fun to try to imagine MU versions of characters that would sort of make sense. Trying to imagine an AU/MU Dukat is particularly interesting.

Lemme know if you're interested and I can PM you a link with everything I've got on him.

Oh, man...that would be complicated as HELL for Kira if she met an MU Dukat who was actually a decent guy!

My theory is that TPTB weren't really trying to show changes in sexual orientation with all those promiscuous MU folks. What they were trying to show with characters like the Intendant - besides the very important titillation factor of someone who looks like Kira! wanting to have sex with other women! and men! and everybody! - wasn't that she was bisexual really. They wanted to show her as being sexually rapacious. Insatiable. Jaded. Interested only in new thrills, and not really caring who she gets those thrills from. So it's really a decadence thing, I think.

Hm...if it were just the Intendant, I would totally agree with you. But they seemed to do it with a number of other characters, as I remember, in "The Emperor's New Cloak"--Ezri and Leeta, I believe, are the two other examples.

There I think it was mostly good ol' titillation. It's been a long time since I've seen that episode, but my vague recollection is that there was still a possible decadence factor. Could be wrong, of course - but either way, I'm pretty sure I'm not about the titillation thing!

I was always waiting for Dukat to show up and help our heroes in the Mirror episodes. Sadly, they didn't go that route.
