Mr. Probert's Sphinx Shuttle

1968gtcs

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
I decided to take a break from my other project and take a few hours to mock up the sphinx shuttle. I'll probably make a model kit out of it for anyone that is interested in watching my progress. Here is a pic of Mr. Probert's drawing and pic of my progress so far.

Front egg shaped section was a little tricky to get accurate to the drawings but haven't spent more than 30 min on it yet.... I've still got to smooth out the transition from the cab to the bed. It kind of reminds me of a helicopter/pickup truck/forklift all combined into one.

had another 30 minute go at it....roughed out some of the base.....looks sweet:)

Tweaked a little more on the engines....wanted them to look a little more organic and "sphinx" like,,,,,/u made the side profile of the engines taper off instead of getting larger like in the concept......what do you think? Should I leave it like this or make it look like the concept?

or this way? this kind of makes the engine looks like it has a scapula bone structure like a sitting cat......gonna try out a few other ways before I decide which way to go

Could you shrink the pics a bit so that I don't have to scroll into next year to see the whole thing?

Haven't had a lot of time this week, but was able to get a few minutes this morning to do the windows and reshape the base to where I'm happy with it. I wanna get it to my machine today so i can paint it tomorrow, so I'll throw on all the rest of the details before lunch. Instead of painting the windows glossy black, i'm thinking of chroming them first and then put a candy smoke over it to make them look like glossy black/chrome.

My machine is currently milling out some trial pieces with model scaled to 1/24, im milling out the model in sections, so the top part without the base will be first. I'm using some scrap MDF, but I'll post pics as soon as its done. I milled out a bottom slice and a side slice just to see how the detail will look at that scale size. MDF doesn't take detail very well because its just compressed dust, but I outlined the detail with my pen so you can see it. It will look awesome once its finished. Each slice is .75 inch thick.....so you don't actually see a fulll profile view out of either side. You can see perspective shot actually how deep slice is...
