I don't think the actual parallel is completely accurate, however. When did Data get sued for allegedly stealing code or allowing the conscious, intentional spreading of misinformation? Indirectly, many FB products users put out lots of memes, most of which were either incomplete, partly incorrect and/or telling whoppers of lies. My favorite is still the DAPL protest, using pictures of a smelly 1969 rock concert to pretend how many people were there and the person who made that even had left a few 1960s automobile in a corner... but is the truth deliberately hidden in plain sight in that instance? And never tell the FB friends, especially the increasingly feral ones.
