Some time ago I watched 65. It was what it advertised. I did like the approach of it crashing into Earth and then out of Earth, as if everything before or after doesn't matter, as long as they got away from the impending disaster. It was a good B movie and the trailers actually didn't spoil the movie (it was a B Movie), which made me want to watch it.
My Spy - A- Killers - D Knives Out - A- Glass Onion - B+ The Good Nurse - A- Shotgun Wedding - B The Woman In The Window - C- Thunder Force - C+ The Estate - B Cocaine Bear - A- Your Place Or Mine - B Mystic River - B+ The performances drive the movie. There isn't a weak link in this cast. But it is a super long movie, based on a book. I didn't understand why we needed the bits with Kevin Bacon's wife. The middle tends to drag from one grief scene to the next and feels more liking piling on that advancing the plot. I did not like that her death was "a prank gone wrong." While it does add to the theme that it was senseless, there would have been more of an emotional punch if the mute brother had killed the girlfriend to keep the brother, his one positive lifeline, from running off to Las Vegas. It also didn't make a lot of sense why the younger brother's friend had such beef with the older brother.

Finally saw the new Mario movie. Loved it! Laughed a lot in it and the Easter eggs were great. It gets an 8/10. Hoping that they make future movies. Just rewatched The Shawshank Redemption and Twister. Both have held up pretty well. 10/10 and 8/10, respectively. Finally got to see Jurassic World Dominion. Really liked it. Don't get the hatred for it. It's a nice popcorn movie. 7/10 Support Your Local Sheriff - 7/10 - A nice spoof off of old westerns, with plenty of slapstick, action and adventure in it. James Garner shined in it. Victor/Victoria - 8/10 - Such a good movie. Julie Andrews and Robert Preston did a very good job, along the rest of the cast. It's funny, meaningful, dramatic at times. Just saw No Time To Die, the new Bond film. It wasn't bad. Good cinematography, and a different spin on things. 8/10 Rewatched Jurassic Park. It still holds up well. 8/10 The Crow - 8/10 - A good movie, but a somber one. Just rewatched The Lost World Jurassic Park. It was ok enough. 6/10 Just rewatched Jurassic Park III and it was ok. 6/10 Just rewatched Jurassic World. An improvement over 2 and 3. A nice popcorn movie. 7/10 Just watched Carrie (1976). Worth it, but wow. It's a tough watch. The practical effects are good though. 8/10
My Spy - A- Killers - D Knives Out - A- Glass Onion - B+ The Good Nurse - A- Shotgun Wedding - B The Woman In The Window - C- Thunder Force - C+ The Estate - B Cocaine Bear - A- Your Place Or Mine - B Mystic River - B+ The Super Mario Bros Movie - A- The wife and I took the kids, but we had a great time as well. There were callbacks to when we were kids playing Super Mario, Donkey Kong and the like. The backstory of Peach and the way the writers changed her from damsel in distress to an active member of her own defence was also handled well. If you played those games in your childhood, you'll have fun.
My Spy - A- Killers - D Knives Out - A- Glass Onion - B+ The Good Nurse - A- Shotgun Wedding - B The Woman In The Window - C- Thunder Force - C+ The Estate - B Cocaine Bear - A- Your Place Or Mine - B Mystic River - B+ The Super Mario Bros Movie - A- The Mother - B+ Jennifer Lopez can still strongly carry a movie and one that has her playing against type, even if the script is written for her to succeed. The first half of the movie has good pacing, but once the scenes focus on just Lopez and her daughter, the story bogs down and loses momentum. When they are later being attacked, the assailants are suddenly equipped like a small army and the leader gives up several opportunities to kill Lopez, but decides to pontificate, fight hand to hand or just leave her unconscious. San Andreas - B I enjoyed watching this one more than other recent movies of its ilk (2010, Day After Tomorrow etc.), but it benefits from having Dwayne Johnson, who can sell being any profession who gets to be the action star. Alexandra Daddario is obviously several years older than the age of her character, especially in her first scene sitting poolside and what the costume decided to put her in. No girl that age with decent parents are going to let her wear that. I feel bad for Ioan Gruffudd, who either plays a great, honourable character or an absolute weasel, the latter here. Kylie Minogue, playing his sister, gets less than a minute of screen time and then has a really silly death off screen. The plot can also be silly from time to time as these movies tend to have. The ending with the big American flag unfurled is comical. I almost expected Johnson to put his hand over his chest with a stray tear. I will give it credit for keeping me entertained. John Wick - B+ I know I'm four movies late, but I really enjoyed the film noir feel and the concept of the safe hotel. Keanu does a great job moving between the cold hitman and the man who is mourning the death of his wife and was clearly the star. It was hilarious seeing Adrianne Palicki as the cold, callous hitwoman, who loves her job after only seeing her in The Orville.
new movies at the theater ive seen this year and up to this summer currently Pope's Exorcist from a month ago 8/10 Guardians of the Galaxy 3 7/10 Transformers Rise of the Beasts which i just saw couple of hours ago today 9/10. i like how the end of the movie is making it look like Transformers is finally doing a crossover with G.I. Joe
My Spy - A- Killers - D Knives Out - A- Glass Onion - B+ The Good Nurse - A- Shotgun Wedding - B The Woman In The Window - C- Thunder Force - C+ The Estate - B Cocaine Bear - A- Your Place Or Mine - B Mystic River - B+ The Super Mario Bros Movie - A- The Mother - B+ San Andreas - B John Wick - B+ A Man Called Otto - A- A solid movie all the way around. It feels a little small in scale, but that is exactly what is needed. The villain character, the company rep, is a cardboard villain, but I wouldn't have devoted any more time to building him and take any time from the other characters. He fulfills what is needed. Tom Hanks manages to hide enough of his usual amicable personality to be Otto, but also makes him just loveable enough to make the audience connect with him. His suicide scenes are poignant and well shot. There is enough levity in how he is interrupted every time that is stops becoming an unwanted gag of him not being able to finish the job. The Mule - A- Another solid movie with another solid star. Clint Eastwood plays the gauntlet of Earl, from the naive to the extremely willing participant to the repentant man at the end of the movie. I understand it is a movie about Earl and in his POV, but I would appreciated more background on his eventual handler. The character is going through his own change, but it is not given any room to really breathe. There are plenty of tangents, but I don't know what I would shave off to accomplish that. Elemental - C- We took the kids to see and while I thought it was cute, it didn't really cover any new ground: a main character with an issue that is solved by a romantic tryst with disapproving parents. As parents of autistic children, we were hoping that given the main character's difficulty with emotional outbursts, there might be something teachable in there for them with regards to emotional control, but instead we got a Disney re-hash. On A Wing & A Prayer - D This movie was heavy on religion, which makes you why Dennis Quaid and Heather Graham are even involved. I also wonder who decided them as a married couple worked with Quaid being sixteen years older. It was extremely noticeable any time they got intimate. The script is weakly written, dumping exposition and making the characters all one note. Quaid's character is particularly unlikable. The youngest daughter should have died in the amount of time it took her sister to find her Epi-pen during her medical emergency. The whole thing is acted like a high school drama club play. I don't have an issue with spirituality, I just wish it could have been written and acted better. Avoid this one. I Am Mother - A Pleasantly surprised by this movie. The robot design is just enough to be creepy and intimidating, while also being convincing as a motherly figure. Rose Byrne does a great job with the voice, playing both sides. The framing of the robot during the explanation of her motives is beautiful, chilling, haunting. The implied death of Hilary Swank's character sent a shiver up my spine and there hasn't been a movie scene that has done that in a long time. Just imagining being stuck inside that small area with a robot with no escape. Her character lacked some development. It isn't explained exactly why she felt the need to lie, whether it was driven by PTSD & loneliness or if she was just proving the point that humanity needed to be wiped out. The production values are great and the ending leaves you begging for a sequel.

And my AMC Stubs expired recently, so I need to get that back before I get to the movie theater again, so I'm falling a bit behind on my movie watching.
Randi and I saw Oppenheimer the other day. I didn’t think I was going to enjoy it but I did. It was exactly the second Christopher Nolan film I’ve seen (it and Inception). And not in a million years would I ever have recognized Robert Downey Jr. and Gary Oldman!
My friend didn't recognize Oldman but I had known he was in it beforehand. Embarrassingly, I didn't recognize Florence Pugh.
^ Must have been distracted by all the nudity. I went to see Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary 3D Sunday night for National Cinema Day. Third time I've seen that movie on the theater screen, second time in 3D, so I won't be adding it to the list. I have renewed my AMC Stubs, and will be using all three tickets this week to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 3D, The Meg 2: The Trench 3D, and The Last Voyage of the Demeter.

Had the theaters all to myself for all three movies! TMNT had an intro from actor / producer Seth Rogan, and since I was all alone, it felt like he was thanking me for coming out to see the movie. I already have my three tickets reserved for Labor Day. - edit, to add - I went out Friday night, using Cinemark points and a birthday coupon for a free soda to watch The Hill. I was expecting a father / son coming of age conflict with baseball, not a film about God's will versus man's desire. Still, Dennis Quaid did a good job as the father, and it was nice to see Scott Glenn turn up in the third act. Followed that with a road trip out to Harker Heights on Saturday to spend time with my nephew and his wife at the Harry Potter double feature. I've seen both movies before, but this was the first time on a theater screen, so they get added to the list. Used all three of my AMC Stubs tickets on Labor Day. Gran Turismo and Blue Beetle were alright, but Retribution was just awful. I'll have three more stubs tickets to use starting tomorrow, I want to see The Equalizer 3 and maybe TMNT again, but not sure how I will use the third ticket. Either Strays or Bottoms, depending on which theater I go to. - edit again - Adding three more movies to my list. Went out Friday night for Bottoms and Strays at AMC Tyler. Bottoms was okay, not great, and I did laugh a couple of times. There were bloopers and alt takes during the first part of the credits, but nothing really hilarious. I went out to Tyler since that's the only local theater it was showing at, not worth the drive out. Followed that with Strays. The novelty of vulgar, foul mouthed dogs gets old pretty quickly, but it was still an entertaining movie. By the time the mid credit bonus scene played, I was the only one in the theater. And then I went to AMC Lufkin for The Equalizer 3 on Sunday night. That was a good movie, I enjoyed it quite a bit, and if it really is the last of the trilogy, I'm all set. Denzel made a good series of films for this character. I may try to rewatch the first two, and go see that one again while its in theaters. I have tickets reserved for Friday, to go see TMNT in 2D, Hercule Poirot in IMAX, and the new Nicholas Cage movie. Will see how that goes when Friday gets here.
