There was only one reason why I rented this movie, and that was Tatiana Maslany. She is absolutely amazing in Orphan Black, and I've been wanting to see more stuff from her for quite a while. I think she was the only highlight in this film, even though as the movie went on I started to like the guy who played Henry. It's your typical troubled teenage movie that was a little predictable and Tat out-acted almost everyone else. I did like the scene with her and the bingo guy though, in terms of hilarious moments and the stuff between Claire and Henry was adorable. Other than that, not really memorable, but decent.

This was the only film in the MCU I have not seen, until now. I've heard people call this film the worst of the MCU films and I was trying to go in with low expectations. After watching it, I don't think it was bad, but definitely not as good as the top or middle tier Marvel films.

I think my main issue with the film was it felt like a sequel to a movie that doesn't exist. I mean we have Bruce Banner, scientist, but I'm not sure if we got that in this film. It was like the beginning of the film told the original story in 10 minutes and then we got to the meat of the story, which was a little bland. We spend a lot of the film watching Norton being hunted by the military and you have to include Liv Tyler in there as the woman in distress.

I wonder how this film would have been had Ruffalo been cast as The Hulk from the beginning. One of the things I love about Ruffalo is he seems more charismatic than Norton does. He also plays a scientist. Yeah he's more comfortable as The Hulk in The Avengers, but I would think in this film Ruffalo would have been a lot more convincing. Norton felt like he was playing Ed Norton and he was a little bland.

I did love the end action scene though. Abomination was not too bad (for early CGI at least) and we got to see Hulk smash stuff. Overall though, I wouldn't call this the worst of the MCU, but more average or below average.

Apocalypse was a lot better than what I was expecting, but it was still very average. It didn't feel like there was any personality to this movie. The scenes that were supposed to be funny were not, and it felt like everyone was there playing a role rather than having any kind of character development. I guess Jean and Scott had some, and I was more interested in what they were doing than what Apocalypse was doing. I did like the scenes in the mansion though, as well as Quicksilver going through the Mansion. I also like the end where it felt like the X-Men were finally going to become official, even though I still wish Cyclops was the leader instead of Mystique. Overall, it wasn't as bad as I thought but it was a paint by the numbers superhero film.

Alice Through the Looking Glass - IMAX 3D - We got to do something we done get to do that often, go out as a couple with another couple. We went to a wonderful Tapas Bar, then headed over to the IMAX to see Alice. We wanted to see XMen but it wasn't playing at a convenient time and settled on Alice. What is funny, no one had see the Tim Burton directed Alice in Wonderland. We own it on BluRay but have never gotten around to watching it. However that may change after seeing Through the Looking Glass. We all really enjoyed the movie. From the opening sequence, where Alice is a ship's captain, trying to evade Pirates. To the end where Mirana apologizes for causing what is wrong with the Queen of Hearts. Speaking of which, Helena Bonham Carter is beyond perfect as Iracebeth, the Red Queen.

I am not a fan of Melissa McCarthy's comedy and hence, Spy loses points for me in the middle, where she is the "bodyguard." She isn't a horrible actress, but she continues to put out movies like "Tammy," "The Boss" and "Identity Thief," where she is like a female Will Ferrell, playing the same stupid or reprehensible character over and over again.

In "Spy," the movie is held up by it's support cast. Jason Statham is hilarious as the FBI agent who says he has done all those things you expect a movie FBI to do (and failing miserably). Rose Byrne is hilarious as the villain and Miranda Hart is also awesome as McCarthy's friend, another analyst.

If writers would start writing smart for McCarthy, I'd be more inclined to watch her.

14) Valkyrie - C-

I've been wanting to see this movie since it originally came out, but was finally able to record it off the television and I was disappointed.

This was not a movie for Tom Cruise. Even as he ages, Cruise is known for his running around, shooting people, beating people up kind of movies, which has been done well being merged with certain thinking plots (see "Oblivion"). However, whenever Valkyrie tries to go for an emotional punch, it fails because Cruise can't carry that kind of scene.

Valkyrie also fails to connect when it comes to the plot and other characters. This was a huge operation and I think the script tries to touch on them all, but it does so at the expense of developing the plot or the characters into anything besides the names. The movie does centre around Cruise, but it tries to introduce too many of the secondary characters and give them scenes when they don't really need to (see: the whole Thomas Kretschmann reserve army bits). In my opinion, they should have stuck with the Stauffenberg plot and trimmed the other stuff back to serve his plot, developing him.

Now You See Me

Never saw this at the cinema, had not seen a single trailer for this and jumped right into this only from reading the blurb on the back of the movie case. I ended up really enjoying this and had fun. I want to watch it again another day.

6.5/10

I couldn't quite give it a full 7 but I had lots of fun.

I'm a long standing member of the IMDB and was surprised by the circlejerk of hate on there for this movie. As you know most films on there get their own individual message forums. It's amusing because 99% of the time film forums there turn into long threads of film bashing..

Man On A Ledge

Again I had a lot of fun with this one and avoided trailers and paying $$$ to see it in a movie theatre. I got the movie at my local movie shop as a bluray for around $15 the DVD of the same was $6 so I wasn't put off by the elcheapo pricing. I knew it had descended into the bargain bin.

I like caper movies and this one had me interested from the very start. All the actors did well for their parts and Elizabeth Banks wow she was great in her role. Sam Worthington did well in his role too and was surprised to see Ed Harris as the main bad guy.

I did love the very nice nod they did to the movie The Abyss in the middle of this. That was kind of cool.

Tom Hanks can make any film he is in watchable and any character believable and he does so here again.

Positively, the music is beautifully shot. The America of the time is vibrant with the colors one would expect, while Berlin of the time is dark, grey, depressing. The attention to detail is also there with posters, etc. Hanks makes himself the everyman once again and Mark Ryland is also stellar as Abel, the spy.

However, where the movie suffers in it's plodding set-up. It seems more like a series of vignettes of the character's life, instead of a fluid story. It felt as if the movie didn't get going until forty-five minutes in. We also get a lot of scenes setting up Powers, but barely any on Pryor, making it hard to understand why the Hanks character feels it so needed to get him out too, except for the "no American left behind" idea. The plot needed to be trimmed down and streamlined.

Alice in Wonderland - BluRay - After having a wonderful experience with Alice Through the Looking Glass we decided to watch the Tim Burton one last night. What a disappointment, like a real let down. What has happened to Tim Burton? Everything was there for a good movie but man it just wasn't. While I wouldn't call it bad, I would say it was pedestrian at best. Sad!

23. X-Men Apocalypse (2016) ⍟⍟ 1/2 - I think they reached the pinnacle with Days of Future Past. Everything from here on out is probably going to be slightly disappointing. I really hope to never see a brooding Magneto again.

24. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ⍟⍟ - It's about 30 minutes too long. Cut all the metahuman stuff out, cut the dream sequence out, cut Wonder Woman, and you might just have a good movie buried somewhere in here.

I remember really liking this movie when it came out, but I think that might have had to do with the whole Iron Man thing still being new and exciting. Robert Downy Jr. rejuvinated his career with this role, and it was a sequel to the movie that relaunched the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Watching it with a more fresher perspective, and now being fully entrenched in this storyline, I can understand why Iron Man 2 was considered a lower tier of the MCU. I still don't think it was a bad movie, but I would probably rank it in the lower tier as well just because there are so many movies in the universe that do it a lot better. Case in point how small this plot of the movie was. It felt like there was too much going on, from Tony's condition, to Justin Hammer and Ivan Venko, to Pepper being CEO. Yeah a lot of things happen, but the plot feels kind of meandering and doesn't have the impact of the previous movie.

One thing I did like though with a much better knowledge of the universe was the introduction of Black Widow. I've always felt like I forgot when she was introduced into the MCU and when I saw avengers, I absolutely love the character. I thought she was great here, and the butt kicking scene at the end was awesome.

Overall though, this is a decent movie but definitely not one of the better films of this franchise.

Went up to Tyler yesterday for my day off, wound up seein' a couple of movies.

The new X-Men was okay, not great. My favorite was the Quicksilver rescue scene. Especially the part with the dog. Least favorite was Apocalypse and his Four Horsemen lookin' cheap outside of Cairo. Seriously, it looked like a magazine photo shoot!

Also, if ya go to see it, stay all the way to the end of the credits! There's a bonus scene!

Second movie was a rewatch of Civil War in 2D. Still a good movie, one of my favorite of the year, so far...

Gotta say, though, goin' to the Carmike in Tyler had to be one of the worst experiences at the theater in awhile. Folks came in late for both. The three people in the same row as me, in the back left corner, apparently knew people in the bottom right corner of the theater, and one women in particular came up from her seat, walked in front of me, and tried to talk to them during the movie. Stupid ass stuff like, "Y'all have any popcorn?" "Y'all gonna get drinks?" I actually went, "SSHHH!!!" at her. And no less than three folks kept texting or playing games on smartphones durin' Captain America.

Why can't everybody be like the Alamo Drafthouse?

15) Captain America: The First Avenger - B (Rewatch)

I think I might have ranked CA: The First Avenger a little too highly on my first viewing. Originally I really liked this movie a lot and what it stood for. Here was a character who really wanted to do the right thing and fight for what he believes in but was deficient in achieving that until he was basically pumped full of Steroids. I liked the theme of being an American Symbol, but I forgot how corny Rogers was before he actually became Captain America.

Watching it again, there's a lot the movie gets right but there is also a lot of corniness to it as well. What it gets right is the setting, the character of Rogers as a symbol, Tommy Lee Jones as the Coloniel, and I was really surprised at how much I liked Peggy Carter this time. Maybe it's the whole thing of we're in a world where Agent Carter was a TV show (Which I have never seen) and became pretty important to the MCU) but Atwell really played Agent Carter well. Also, this rewatch helped answer some questions I've had after watching the next few movies like learning more about Hydra, Bucky, and all that backstory

What I didn't like about the movie though was some of it was corny. I kinda wish Red Skull didn't reveal his real self because he became a bit of a cartoon character when he did. I love Hugo Weaving, and the villain should have been Hugo Weaving.

Overall, it was a decent film, but maybe I did rank it a little high.

I've been doing it in the order they were released, but I forgot Thor came out before Captain America. Thor is my next film.

Ah OK mine aren't in any kind of order just in categories. All the iron man films in one place the thor movies in one place etc.
