Eddie Rydmaine and Falicity Jones carried this movie, and it was a great movie at that. There were some slow and meandering scenes in the middle, but this was a well done film about the life of Jane and Stephen Hawking. I also wanted a little bit more about the science (There were times when this film felt more like a film about Jane rather than Stephen) but overall, I really enjoyed it.

Made my last trip to the movie theater for the year to see the first part of the HG finale.
I quite liked it, not as good as the first two, but maybe once the second part comes out, viewin' 'em together will make a difference.
There was one guy in the theater who, when the movie ended, yelled out, "REALLY!?!?"
There are still a couple of movies out there I'd like to see, but tomorrow's my last day off 'til New Year's, so I guess it they can wait.

The lengthy sequence of Zamperini and his friends marooned at sea is gripping, and the prison camp sequence is effectively grueling, but the story is saddled with a bunch of flashbacks to his early life that don't tell you anything meaningful about the character (indeed, I'd argue they make him seem blander, since they're the most cliched part of it), and a general lack of focus on his inner life (especially obvious when a ton of stuff relating to his PTSD and postwar religious awakening are relegated to a text epilogue).
I got the Criterion edition for Christmas. I thought the movie was pretty good. There are hours and hours and hours of bonus footages that I'm going to be sorting through and a pretty thick booklet that came with it.

Watched the latest Stephen King remake starrin' Chloe Grace Moretz. I watched the original with Sissy Spacek awhile back...thinkin' this one may have been better. Some obvious CGI, but Carrie at the prom was better, more animated, then just bein' bug eyed and lookin' at stuff.
Glad I got to it before Netflix drops it from the listings.
Watchin' I,F tonight, just 'cause I like Aaron Eckhard & Bill Nighy, but the story of Frankenstein's monster being' caught in a war between demons from hell & gargoyles from churches is kinda dull. Way too much CGI & green screen in this one.

I usually do a New Year's Eve one last go to the movies but I didn't do it this year because I got sick so this is my list. I don't watch a lot of movies (Mainly a Sports and TV fan) but 21 is decent for me.
Can someone please explain Birdman and why it was so loved? The more I think about that movie the more annoyed I get with it. It was a pretentious movie with one of the most annoying "musical scores" I've ever heard. I guess people like the set up of it being filmed in one shot, but there was something nauseating about it. Every year it seems like there is a film I just didn't get (One year I couldn't even finish Tree of Life because it was so boring) and Birdman might be this year's film.

In picking one last film to close out the year (albeit not on a nice round number), I looked at my Netflix list and this jumped out as appropriate on a title basis. I recall this being talked about a lot back in 2010, centering around Lesley Manville's performance, which a lot of people wanted to see get an Oscar nomination. It didn't, but it certainly would have merited it; Manville is superb as a jittery, perpetually-miserable woman, whose life is observed through the viewpoint of a happily married pair of acquaintances. As with a lot of the work of Mike Leigh, it's hard to describe on a plot level, but it's a fascinating watch.

Grossly behind in updating my 2014 list, sorry.
I finished the Dirty Harry films and while there was a drop in them with plotting and cliche's slipping into the screenplay, I found them all to be good. Is it possible to have Rose Colored glasses for actors, guest actors in the film, even if you've not seen the film? I wholly enjoyed watching Tyne Daly forced on Harry in the Enforcer knowing she'd be the lead on Cagney & Lacy. I show I watched in the 80's. Then in The Dead Pool I was not expecting Jim Carrey in the first Act or that Liam Nesson was crucial to the film.
In the Land of Blood & Honey is a really great character piece that focuses on a few individuals during the Bosnian War of the 90's. Very, very good with an ending you can see coming but keep thinking won't develop perhaps.
From Dirty Harry to Harry Potter.
Yes, I'm that guy who had not watched the film series, not seen ONE film and only seen parts on TV over the years. My girlfriend and I (ok she insisted I rectify this film error) thought we'd try and watch them all before years end but alas only got the first 3 in. My 2015 list will fill in the others no doubt.
I enjoyed 1 & 3 the most so far. Chamber of Secrets is good but I figured out plot points in it so that drops it a bit. Maybe it shouldn't but I still enjoyed it overall. I asked my girlfriend if I was going to have to watch a Quidditch match every film cause by HP:PoA I confess to being over that element just by film 3. Apparently I will have to.
So a pretty big drop for me this year vs years past coming in at well under a 100 films viewed for the first time since starting these threads with a full year noted.
Onward to 2015 but I can't be sure I'll rebound as distractions are likely to increase this year for me.
Maybe she loves the memories in her head, and re-watching the movies is either unnecessary or harmful to the consistency of those memories?
Nostalgia is tricky.

They told a pretty good a to z fairy tale and then kept going on after happily ever after into...
A story can only have a happily ever after if the story finishes before every thing turns sour.
Anna was lovely, they were doing something to Chris, he was much more handsome than he is on Star Trek, but maybe that's why chicks dig jerks, they're just hotter?
Music was funny.
I may hate Johnny Depp entirely.
2 hours, and the last 40 minutes were entirely unnecessary.
