The story here was adequate (although in the end it didn't seem as if they the trip to the dream world wasn't necessary), but I watched the film mostly for Singh's visuals and they didn't disappoint, being beautiful and desturbing (sometimes at the same time).
Went to see Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 70mm last night at the Drafthouse Ritz. I've seen the movie before, just never on the big screen, so I won't be addin' it to my list.
I do have passes to see the new Clint Eastwood movie, Trouble with the Curve, tomorrow night (two weeks early!) and if I get in, I will be addin' that to the list!
I wish there was an AMC theater here cause I'd like to have seen the 4 film marathon viewing of Indiana Jones. Regal and Carmike neither one chose to do that.

The film has very little to do with actual history, but as a film I found it to be very good, with great sets and I liked the shots of Earth in orbit they showed from time to time (made the whole conflict about different beliefs seem especially insignificant).

Yeah, I saw that advertised online, too. Dallas, Houston & San Antonio all had the marathon, but not Austin.

Three movies I've seen before, but revisted recently. District 9 is, I think, close to a sf classic -- but is weighed down by its Nigerian villains, whose portrayal comes off as more than a trifle racist and reminiscent of colonial discourse.
The Rescuers isn't top-tier Disney, but it's perfectly fine on iuts own terms. Some of the animation struck me as a bit lazy -- several of the creatures at the end seem culled from the studio's earlier output -- but most of it was just fine.
Anatomy of a Murder is, visually, far from the most impressive thing Otto Preminger ever filmed -- but it doesn't matter one bit. It's so good, even now (the third or fourth time I've seen it in as many years) because of the actors and the script, which is sharp and surprisingly frank for the period.

Watched the third live-action Punisher movie yesterday, which changed the origin, so its not really a sequel to the Tom Jane version. I thought it was far too over the top, even for the Punisher. Seriously, hangin' upside down & spinnin' from a chandelier while killin' mobsters? WTF?!?
At least he had a real comic book villian this time...
Saw the new Clint Eastwood movie last night at a free screenin', two weeks before the release date. Nice cast, which also has Amy Adams, Justin Timberlake, John Goodman, Robert Patrick & Matthew Lillard. The assholes are always assholes, the good guys are always good guys. And everyone who deserves it gets a happy endin'. No shades of gray in this story of a baseball scout on one last road trip for the Atlanta Braves.

Well, Deja Vu was an alright movie...not great, but worth watchin'. Glad I got it out of the discount bin, though.
Went up to Drafthouse S Lamar after work tonight, saw Hara-Kirk: Death of a Samurai 3D for free. I don't think the 3D was necessary at all, but it was still a good movie. It had a pretty slow pace, and for a movie about a samurai, it only had the one big swordfight. I enjoyed it, though.
Debatin' on seein' either For a Good Time, Call... or Red Hook Summer tomorrow night after work.

I love stop-motion films and for some reason most of the time they turn out great. Like this one. Probably not quite suitable for little children (there a few scary scenes), but I had a lot of fun watching this.

Not sure why it took me 15 years to see this movie, but I finally got around to seeing it tonight and man what a great movie this was. The theme of corruption in the LAPD, the mystery vibe, the aesthetic 1950s look and feel to the movie and the outstanding cast made this movie. I wouldn't necessarily call it a best picture winner though because I did feel it started slow but once the plot go going, it was gripping until the end. Really liked this cast and I'm assuming this was one of Russel Crowe's first roles? It's a shame he or Guy Peirce wasn't nominated for their roles, but Basinger was well deserved that year.

As an aside, I really should go back and visit more 1990s academy award winning films. I still contend that was the best decade (In my lifetime which is 28 years) for film but there's still quite a lot I haven't seen. Heck, I have Reservior Dogs in my queue and will see that one of these days. Anyone have any other recommendations of great 90s cinema? Of course I might have seen it but other than the popular films of the decade (The Disney summer films, Titanic, Forrest Gump, Shawshank, Pulp Fiction), I probably haven't.

Went back up to Drafthouse South Lamar after my shift tonight, and took in two movies that they're showin'.
First off, Compliance...based on the news stories from a few years ago, where crank calls were made to fast food restaurants & the caller, claimin' to be a police officer investigatin' a theft by the employee, got the manager to strip & humiliate the employee. This film goes further than anything that may have really happened, I hope...and when someone with some sense finally speaks up in a way that someone should have sooner, folks in the audience actually yelled out, "Finally!!!"
Followed that up with the new movie from Spike Lee, Red Hook Summer. And its actually only the second movie from Spike Lee I've gone to see in a theater, after Inside Man. This one is about a widowed mother who sends her teenage son to spend the summer away from Atlanta, and in Red Hook, a NYC housin' project where her bible-thumpin' father, a widower, lives.
A revelation about the father is revealed late in the movie, and its suggested that the mother may have known about it, and it makes the whole movie kinda fall apart...the boy shouldn't have been sent up there in the first place, really.

The RomCom starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman was much more enjoyable than I thought. It was of course predictable where the story would lead but was done well. The over the top moments even somehow felt real enough given how the characters had been set up with their backstories. I wanted to like Lake Bell's character but she was written to be an obvious unappealing longterm option..and she sold it well despite her hotness.

The Tigger Movie: Not nearly as good as the more recent version of Winnie the Pooh, but entertaining enough. Many of the songs feel rather unmotivated (except for the need to sell a soundtrack album, of course) and the film lacks the clever interplay between the narrator and the characters found in the more recent version.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan: There's been some debate on this forum recently about this movie; some have suggested that it's overrated. Among Trek fans, perhaps this is true, but I still think it's a great movie. It's not without plot holes or overacting, but then again, neither is Casablanca. It was nice to see it on the big screen, too (at Walter Koenig's walk of fame celebration this weekend), although the DCP featured the same transfer used on the Blu-Rays, which suffers from inconsistent color timing (Regula is mostly blue in this version rather than red, as in the original; this is fine, I think, but a few shots retain the red coloring).
Three Colors: Red: Like the other two films in this trilogy, this is a simple story about a few people, but it's told with such beauty and craft that you couldn't possibly call it "uncinematic." I'm not sure which of the films is my favorite, but they're all excellent, and Three Colors: White certainly doesn't deserve its reputation for being boring. All three are thoughtful, engaging dramas.
