To be fair, it all depends on how much that person liked TMP; as I've mentioned on other threads the film is what it was meant to be, an immersive experience ala 2001: A Space Odyssey - the exploration of the film is about the exploration of the human evolution and is there more to us than meets the eye? Anyone who goes with that kind of appreciation and intelligence of TMP would be disappointed at the little to zero IQ of the popcorn feel of TWOK... a movie which was more in tone to the action adventure feel of the TV series.

As much as I love TWOK, Robert Wise's resume speaks for itself, and his work outweigh anything Nicholas Meyer has ever done in his underwhelming career.

TMP and TWOK are my two favourite trek movies, for entirely different reasons. I appreciate the different flavour they bring to the table.

I'm appreciating TMP everytime I get a chance to see the film; just check out the scenes where the Enterprise is traveling the confines of V'Ger, the crew is exploring what V'Ger picked up throughout its travels. Spock's mindmeld of V'Ger explores a series of images it had which unspools all over his mind, talk about information overload at its core. There's a lot to digest in that film which is by some fans, boring and long, but I think there was a lot of thought to the images presented in that film.

Interesting question. Most disappointing necessarily incorporates the expectation level.

I will go backwards, starting with the movies I really liked the most.

Exceeded expectations: TWOK, TVH, TUC, FC.

Nothing terribly original here. These are my favorites by far. Despite an hiccup here (Checkov recognizing Kahn) or there (Picard was off in all the movies).

Exceeded expectations but only because they were really low: ST09, BEY.

I was happy for the reboot. The cast did well. Too much action/silliness. Don't like JJ films. Still ticked about Vulcan/Spock's mom.

I hated, hated, hated, the second Kelvin film, so my expectations for BEY were so low that it surpassed them just by NOT being a friggin' bad remake of a ToS movie. I was out of the loop on Shatner/50th rumors, so that had no effect on my expectations.

Met expectations: TMP, TSFS, INS.

I was pretty young for TMP and did not have any expectations about it. I didn't find it disappointing at all. Nor do I now.

A tad disappointed there was no Kirstie Alley for TSFS, but the movie was fine.

As for Insurrection, I liked it. I have no issue with the movie not being a galactic or federation level threat. I thought the infinity in every moment thing was cool. And at least Picard was more himself again.

Below expectations: TFF, GEN, NEM.

Expectations were high after TWOK, TSFS, & TVH, so TFF was a bit of a letdown. Plus, the "center of the galaxy" thing has not aged well.

Was also hyped for the first NextGem movie, so GEN was disappointing. Weepy Picard & Kirk dying.

I do not hate NEM as much as many do, but it was still disappointing. More so in hindsight as it killed off the TNG movies.

I could easily vote for any of the above 3, but my winner is: STID.

Hey, let's destroy Vulcan and kill Spock's mom to create an alternative timeline so we won't be constrained by canon.....and then make TWOK again, badly. With Kirk & Spock acting stupidly throughout.

Hate it.

I seem to remember JJ saying that they were going to do things different and not rehash old Trek right before doing a movie about Khan and doing a number of call backs to TWOK. The other 2 JJ movies are fine but that one is a joke

TFF failed for me on the back of Sybock as a poor character and didnt like GEN when I saw it as a teen but its one of my favorites now that i can appreciate the performance of Malcom McDowell

Yeah, Orci and Kurtzman and Lindelof pushed for Khan, which overshadows a very entertaining movie. Not enough to ruin the film for me, but it definitely had an impact on many I know.

Though, personally, I am starting to resent TWOK because Star Trek films are often trying to recapture its glory. TWOK cast a long shadow and that is unfortunate.

So to summarize your feelings of those movies

KKHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNN

I'm going to say that I found the '09 movie or Into Darkness to be the most disappointing. I think part of it was that I came to the other movies so late that I already knew their reputations (XYZ are good, ABC are not), and in many cases the "bad" ones were better then I was expecting them to be. With '09 and Darkness, I went to them in theaters with only my expectations.

I find it hard to choose between the two for "most disappointing" due to not being sure which was more disappointing. I found the creative liberties with '09 did not suite me at all. With Darkness, I went in thinking the trailers looked interesting and was hoping that it would be a good movie irregardless of canon and all that crap. It was a mess of a movie in and of itself and had none of the charm that allowed me to at least enjoy '09 in the moment as a big dumb adventure movie.

On second thought, I think I know; Darkness was the most disappointing for me.

I've seen every Trek film in the theater starting with The Final Frontier and I have no recollection of my initial reaction to it. I was 4 years old at the time and was more caught up in the thrill of seeing Star Trek on a movie screen for the first time. I think the most disappointing is Into Darkness. And it all has to do with the shitty marketing campaign surrounding Cumberbatch's character. Is he Khan? Is he not Khan? Deep down, I think we all knew he was, but didn't want to accept it. Plus you had Abrams and Bryan Burke literally saying for years, no, we're not bringing back Khan.

Aside from the pathetically-bad attempt to hide his identity, it was just a big, loud, and dumb movie with no substance to it at all.

I thought all of the films after The Final Frontier were pretty disappointing. First Contact was passable as an action flick, but the rest were just abysmal.

I think INS was the worst. It just seemed so...boring. The "Baku" are just regular-looking humans that live like old-world villagers. But the twist is...they're really old! They found the fountain of youth. And the ugly old aliens, who turn out to once have been regular-looking humans want it for themselves. And F. Murrary Abraham once again playing the villain.
At least NEM had the novelty of Tom Hardy playing young, evil Captain Picard.

Was so hard for me to buy his takeover of the RSE

Yes! Something like that should have either taken place over a long period of episodes, or been the main focus of the movie. A civil war on Romulus! But having it happen right away and suddenly Shinzon is in charge? It makes the Romulan world seem small, and their threat greatly diminished. And his plan? Destroy Earth, bwahahahaha! Why exactly? Because...Shinzon is evil, okay.

What were they thinking?

He had the backing of the military. Many coups will succeed at first because of that support.

Which is why I said: Something like that should have either taken place over a long period of episodes, or been the main focus of the movie.
That has more story potential and could have been far more interesting than fast tracking the whole thing just to tell the story of Dr. Evil plotting to destroy all...life...on...EARTH!

Of the problems Nemesis has the fact that Shinzon overthrew the Romulan government with the support of the military is not one of them.
