Morrison talks Trek

I can see why they had her audition that scene. She did a damn good job of screaming, crying and looking traumatized. She really should have been there at the end, when Kirk's given the medal and mega-promotion. Just standing there clapping and looking proud.

I love the comments. "It's not canon! Waaaaah!!":rommie:

The article does have a good point that Kirk's mom should have been included in the scene where Kirk gets promoted to Captain.

Would have loved to see Kirk's mom more in the film, especially at the end when he gets command of the Enterprise. Ah well...

There was more filmed featuring Winona at the very start, in the Kelvin sickbay, in scenes included in the novelization. We briefly see one of those scenes being prepared in the "Boldy Go" DVD feature.

This is probably how the Khan rumors got started. . . they may have had the actors up for the villain reading from the WoK script to see how they handled a classic villain. . . also. . . does anyone really believe that Peter Weller is playing a CEO, or did he read the CEO part from another script in order to see how he would act as a "boss" type character?

I'd have to say I'm a bit skeptical about the veracity of that particular rumored detail. We shall see, though.

I am skeptical about the CEO role as well. First of all it doesn't sound exciting. What is he going to do send real nasty memo's to the crew?

Aren't most Bond villains CEOs as well?

I don't know. I never really got into James Bond much.
I'd say that, yeah, many of the Bond villains I can remember were at least nominally CEOs. I think it could also be said that, for such a character (whether in Bond stories or anywhere else) the public "CEO" face and the corporation it represented were pretty much always a front for the villain's real job of plotting Mwahaha Eeee-Vil Domination of the World/Sector/Galaxy/Universe/8th Dimension.

This is probably how the Khan rumors got started. . .

IIRC, Bob Orci deliberately started the Khan rumours, not long after the first movie arrived. He said (paraphrasing very heavily) something like, "JJ really liked the designs they came up with for the Klingons and we hope we can give more time to them in another movie. We can go anywhere from here. We could even do Khan, but maybe we'll just show his sleeper ship being destroyed or something and then go in a different direction."

This is seemingly the way JJ likes to do his market research. We saw it all through "Lost". Floating ideas in the social media, waiting for responses, judging what's interesting/unexpected, and allowing that feedback to colour (but not direct) what they end up doing.
