  • “We’re making a movie. Carl Binder and I are co-writing the script. Martin [Wood] will direct. If you have a good title, let me know.”
  • “We’re making it in the spring.”
  • “MGM was talking about more SG-1 movies as soon as the first did well.”
  • “The success of the SG-1 movies made an Atlantis movie possible, and all parties decided that was the best way to move forward.”
  • “We need to get some deals in place first.” (why the third movie hasn’t been officially announced by MGM yet)
  • “The next movie will be much more Jack centric.”
  • “MGM owns Stargate, not me. I can’t change studios. The DVD’s came out of a desire to prove we could make movies. I think we surprised the studio with what we could do on a small budget, but not enough to let us make a big Stargate feature.”
  • “If I get RDA in a movie, I don’t cut the scenes. If you’re looking for a re-cut movie, watch Children of the Gods when it comes out.”
  • “I liked the Aschen story too. Insidious. No plans right now.”
  • “I would love to do that [theatrical SG-1 movie with $20-25 million budget]. The reasons we can’t right now are complicated.”
  • Concerning RDA’s limited screentime in Stargate Continuum: “That’s all I could get him for. He’ll be much more involved in the next one.”
  • “I thought Claudia was terrific in Continuum, but Vala won’t be returning in the third movie.”
There's more at Joe Mallozzi's blog.

I don't mind Vala not being present if this movie is Jack-centric. When you have one character as comic relief, the other tends to become redundant. Maybe in a later one, if they're made.

I like what I see here, although the "it's complicated" reasoning behind why they can't make a 20-25 million dollar theatrical movie seems a little disingenuous. I think most of us are intelligent enough to recognize that nobody in their right mind would try to launch a Stargate movie like that. Less money and straight to DVD is a proven financial strategy. No reason to fuck with that by introducing an unproven, and tenuous at best, strategy.

I think it may have something to do with legal matters - who owns the rights to the series. IE, the original Stargate movie verse vs the TV verse. I know there have been some feelings by those responsible for the first movie that are not very happy with the way the TV series has taken shape.

I just hope it's a 'seasons 1 to 6 Jack' centred movie, and not a 'seasons 7-10 Jack' one.

If the next one is Jack centric, then RDA better tone up; he was looking rather doughy in Continuum.

I'm happy to hear that it will be more Jack, but sad at the same time that there will be no Vala. Yet, I don't know if I can handle both of at the same time, so maybe it will be a good thing. I'm just curious how they will bring him back, I wonder if it's going to be another time travel themed movie.

Hopefully, they will start or have a memorial scene for Gen. Hammond, and then make sure that mention Don Davis at the end of the movie. I think that would be a nice way to end the character and pay respect to the actor. Now I'm sad thinking about the loss..

You know, all I have to read is that this is an O'Neill centric movie, and that's all I need to be excited.

Interesting that it was made a point to say that Vala won't be in it. I wonder if there is a specific reason why.

[insert illogical rant on how TPTB are screwing over Claudia Black]

^^Perhaps Claudia Black simply isn't available?

That is possible. Why not just say that? The way they structured the sentence makes it sound that Vala was left out of the story (for whatever reason).

Not that it makes a big difference to me. I'm just curious.

Hope this clarifies what Jack has been doing and what position he holds now, or maybe it will be the story about how he FINALLY goes into retirement, for real this time.

Looking forward to it, I want more info on what Jack has been doing.

I think it's weird that Vala won't even make a cameo.

I hope in this movie Jack and Sam get married.... and then Jack dies.... :-D

I don't know if I would want them to get married. I think that the build up of attention is rather entertaining, especially more than them being an old married couple. What fun is in that?

Then Jack dies..nooo!! No..retirement would be fine, but no sappy death scenes with him. I want action, comedy, adventure, something exciting..

I'm sure the Vala thing has nothing more than scheduling conflicts to blame.

Wasn't Claudia Black unwilling to commit to even an eleventh season (back when an eleventh season was possible)? She seems to be interested in devoting her time to raising her kid in her residence of choice. Add to that having to split her screentime with Jack, and it seems easiest just to let her go for this one.

Most of the cast, I think CB included, were already in contract for an 11th season.

I think the only one who had a year left on her contract was Amanda Tapping which is why they put her on Atlantis for a season. But Claudia did get pregant again right before they started filming the DVD movies, she might be taking a small break from acting right now or she might be doing the Farscape wedisodes.

Hopefully they won't make him "Homer Simpson" stupid. The writers have a tendency to do that. There's joking around, and then there's making a character who should be SERIOUS at least some of the time (he is a General after all) and making him completely oblivious and foolish (case in point, beginning of Continuum).

He's the friggin' lead, he shouldn't be relegated to the role of comic relief. I prefer action star Jack, not "Homer Simpson" Jack who makes us laugh at how dumb he sounds.
