More convinced then ever......

Shatner will appear as a lawyer sent from some sleazy Boston law firm to defend Kirk in his disciplinary hearing for cheating on the Kobayashi Maru exam. He will be accompanied by James Spader, whose main role will be to keep him on a leash and keep him from molesting all the female members of the cast. . .

What's Spock going to do, travel to Veridian 3 so its Spock, Picard AND Kirk against Soren... Kirk then survives and lives on through Trek history :-P
Maybe OldSpock subtly alters history so that Kirk wasn't where he needed to be to get caught up in the Nexus, and so when OldSpock gets back to his own time, OldKirk is hanging around in his wheelchair.

I truly think that the best Shatner fans can hope for is a voice-over at the end of the film. Much like hearing the Bond theme only at the end of Casino Royale, this new Trek shouldn't really "begin" until the end with Shatner's familiar voice reading the classic prologue.

How's that for fanwank?

This is sounding more and more like a conspiracy theory all the time.

Tell me about it.
Last year I was in a debate with Cary L. Brown (whom I haven't seen in a while) in which he claimed that the 'S.S. Conestoga ('Terra Nova' - ENT) was indeed the original design for the ENT Enterprise, but that TPTB tried to cover that up once they decided to use the 'Akiraprise' instead...
Well, I'm back now. I'd been banned as a result of a post where I insisted that one of our other posters owed an apology to someone they flamed... long story... but after a couple of weeks, and a lot more trouble than this BBS is really worth, as of today I have access again.

I came on today just to see if there'd been any comments re: me, and found this one in a search.

For the record, though... I never said anything about the Conestoga being the original ship in Enterprise. I don't get why you'd be attributing that to ME, since I never said anything remotely like that, and never believed anything of the kind. At most, I believe I may have said that I thought that the Conestoga LOOKED more like what I'd have hoped to see, but what I, personally, wanted to see would have been more like the "ringship" design... which I've spent some time revising and which looks like THIS (and nothing like the Conestoga whatsoever).

So, why would you attribute a conversation we'd never had to me, and a position I'd never taken to me? I don't get that. It's not like I'm going to jump in and start fighting over it... ;)

As good a job as they're doing keeping leaks at a minimum, I don't think there's any way they'd be keeping Shatner's involvement in the movie a secret for that long. I think hopes for him to be at this stage is more wishful thinking than anything. If they do manage to pull it off somehow, I bet the CIA or FBI will be begging them for tips!

Well, the BSG stuff didn't leak until AICN posted the spoiler a few days before the episode aired, so maybe the CIA needs to go call Ron Moore.

BSG is popular among some people, but I don't get the impression that it's garnering nearly as much interest and attention as this movie is.

Me too. Sure, it'd be awesome to see Shatner on the big-screen one more time as Kirk, but I think it'd be too distracting.

Valid point. I don't believe the plot of this movie will survive being under wraps for the next 11 months- someone's gonna blab one way or the other, especially around summer when the trailer hits.

Free Masons??? Hah! The Illuminati would never let the Free Masons gain control of anything Hollywood. It's one of the laws that Skull & Bones enforces! :)

I think if young kirk met the fat, grey, stuttering, bloated old version of himself he'd probably commit suicide. Best to keep Shatner out of it.

Wow. You've just raised yourself up by insulting someone.

Good for you.

You do realize, newb, that Shatner is a REAL PERSON WITH REAL FEELINGS?

Right?

Ah, I'm sure that doesn't matter.

You still feel pretty good about yourself for making asinine comments on a message board.

Way to go YOU.

You know Superman, I don't agree with what Jessop said, but everytime something slightly insulting is said about Shatner, you need to make a counter comment, and I don't think it's particularly effective in stopping it from happening. It admitedlty doesn't happen all that often, but still...

I haven't been here all that long myself, but when you're commenting on all the silly little noobs, keep in mind you've been here all of a month.

I've got a lot of respect for the SHAT, but he's long past the point where playing Kirk again on the big screen would be a good idea, imo. The guy makes mistakes, just like everyone else, but when we do/say something it isn't posted on the interenet 10 seconds later so a bunch of fanboys can critique it.

That William Shatner will appear in this film as James T. Kirk. I know, I know he has moaned and groaned about not being in it. I think thats all a ploy, especially after the last round of castings. James T. Kirk is just to important and that makes William Shatner as important.

So for the record, I have no proof, no hear-say, no internet rumor. Just my gut says that he will be in it.

That's like opting for creationism over evolution because your "gut" tells you.

You know what they say about assuming...

I've been here since 1999, under various usernames.

Almost a decade.

And I'll defend ANY PERSON against unprovoked and hateful attacks, esp. when made by people who simply want to attempt to make themselves somehow seem hip, cool, or "in" because they can tear another person down.

Sorry if you have a problem with that. You'll have to deal with it, as I won't be changing that about myself.

Superman, please knock off this sort of thing.

I don't agree with him either...but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

You are welcome to put any poster who upsets you on 'ignore' if you like...but we don't need any more of these sorts of remarks berating other posters.

There ARE other ways to disagree besides browbeating others.

My take on this is pretty simple...

The internet is just filled with people who THINK that they have "special rights" and that nobody else out there is as "real" as they are.

The same people who go crying and whining to mommmmy the first time someone says something even SLIGHTLY "less than fawning" about them, they go ballistic (or at least get together and get a group of pals to hit "report to mod" en-masse)... those people are typically the ones who are the LEAST concerned about the feelings of anyone else.

It seems that it's because they really don't see anyone else as being "real" except for them. I'm reminded of a guy who I saw on some late-night TV show a few years ago... a fairly popular guy, central-asian descent, a professor at some east-coast school who's written a bunch of fairly well-selling books... who claimed that he believed that he is the entire universe and that everything else... that's ALL OF US... we're just figments of his imagination, effectively.

It's a way of sounding "enlighted" while at the same time propping up one's own sense of absolute and total self-absorption as somehow being something other than the abject immorality that most people would treat it as.

That's what I see every time I see someone here go into a flame on someone who's not there to defend themself. The two people who most commonly get that, here on the "oh-so-open-minded TrekBBS" where "IDIC" is supposed to be central to everything, would be JMS (Babylon 5) and Shatner. I think that they're both just about tied for the sheer volume of brattish hatred spewed on them by the utterly self-absorbed types on here.

Superman is entirely correct, though I think Shatner would be the first guy to point out that the defense really isn't needed. Shatner is happy, successful, and doesn't feel the need to go on the internet and flame people he's never met. ;)

Shatner is also 70 years old. I'd hazard a guess that he's in FAR better health and better shape than any of his "detractors" will be at that age. Hell, the guy still rides horses... at an age when I'd bet his biggest "flamers" on here will be drooling and wetting themselves. ;)

So the ongoing bratty "flames" on Shatner (and similarly on JMS) don't really do any harm. But they DO tell us alllll about the person doing the flaming.
