I'm familiar with Rekha Sharma and Kenneth Mitchell as both have appeared in quite a few things I've seen, but not the others so much.

Looking forward to it:)

I guess I'm tired of cast announcements. At this point we should be getting more details about the premise and possibly some set photos (where you can actually see the sets).

The fact that we're getting so many Klingon crew announcements should give some idea of the premise. What's in existing canon, about 10 years before TOS that includes so many Klingons?

(I feel like that Family Guy bit about the Don Knotts movie: "why are there so many Klingons? The brochure said there'd only be a few Klingons.")

io9 was making a big fuss saying Discovery is in trouble, recasting Kol so late - any truth to this, or can it happen in TV? Myabe they recast Latif a while back and just didn't say? io9 is known for hyperbole at times, so I dunno if they are just running articles dissing the show's production for clicks.

No reason it can't be both. The production is obviously troubled but that doesn't mean the final product won't benefit from the turmoil.

As for the recasting, it could be a couple different things. Either the guy was so good they wanted him in a more visible role or he was so bad but his contract cost too much to fire him so they put him in a smaller Lt Kyle role.

I refer the court to Voyager, which replaced its lead after filming started.

So what do we have now, about a dozen cast members announced? I doubt they're ALL regulars. Are they announcing guest stars? Is that what we've come to? lol!

...I09 has one of these as an entire role switch, a previously cast Klingon now playing a starfleet officer, with the Klingon character being recast. Four months into production.

I'm still hoping for the best (remember Westworlds production?).

Or is this a distraction from the truth?
he's a Klingon who undergoes genetic enhancement to look human and infiltrate Starfleet

Always possible, although weird that's be in a casting notice. Unless they changed the plot this far in and wanted to make it a twist
with the new Klingon actor a red herring

Latif was originally announced in the role of Kol, now played by Kenneth Mitchell. Sound's like the old TNG's Marina Sirtis/Tasha Yar and Denise Crosby/Deanna Troi switcheroo!

How many Klingons does that make now?

Five I think - one removed, three added.

Here were the previous Klingons before Latif was recast:

Unless we hear otherwise I guess these guys are still big Klingon characters:

Could have just been a case of finding him a better fit elsewhere when filming began, or other reasons. sometimes things just work better in different ways and the only way to know about it is to roll cameras and see what happens.

To be honest, I'm quite pleased - more ethnic variety in the humans is always a good thing.
