More Cast and Characters added to Discovery!

Recently i found out that:

"Doug Jones will be portraying Lieutenant Saru, “a Starfleet science officer, and new alien species to the Star Trek universe," Michelle Yeoh has in fact beamed aboard of captain of the starship Shenzhou, but her character’s name is Captain Georgiou, not ‘Han Bo, and Anthony Rapp – one of the original cast members of RENT on Broadway – will take on the role of Lt. Stamets, science officer and astromycologist (“fungus expert”)." - taken from "Trekcore."

I like the solid acting chops that they have revealed so far, it makes me further optimistic about the show.

What do you all think?

I also like that Lt. Stamets is an astromycologist. Space mushrooms! That's actually really cool. And my guess is he's named for Paul Stamets, a renowned American mycologist.

Anyway, Doug Jones seems perfect lookswise as he's one of those actors such as Armin Shimerman who looks like an alien without makeup. However I'm unfamiliar with any of his or Rapp's work so I can't comment on that.
But this is now the second time they've missed their production start date which is a bit concerning.

He's basically a researcher into bioremediation -- using mushrooms to filter, contain, or destroy various contaminants and wastes. It's pretty cool, groundbreaking stuff.

Seriously, I like the sounds of these characters, not our usual "fill in the blank" bridge officers. I wonder if they're going to announce all the co-stars first and leave the lead for last, so they can build up some hype?

Quite likely. I do envision the lead female will be younger in age, particularly as that will grab that young female woman demo.

Cool. Love Pan's Labyrinth which I always think of when I see the name Doug Jones. And Yeoh was maybe my top choice for captain.

Yeah, i was super stoked when i saw that all three had been announced.

I love Doug Jones! Damn! He's probably the best "put-in-a-costume"-guy around! Let's hope Lt. Saru is indeed a really alien character compared to anything we have ever seen before! Together with Michelle Yeoh, my excitement for this series went straight up!
I don't know the other guy, and the role seems to be intended as "nerdy science-guy/comic relief". But that's not a bad thing. Quite the opposite, really.

Edit: Also: An effin fungus expert! Let's hope they go really wild with alien fauna in this series!

I've literally seen no announcement that they missed their production start date a second time. It just got thrown around that start of November was when filming was starting, and I think that's been taken as gospel, for whatever reason.
