More 3D Printing

That Discovery print is looking awesome. I'm just like you, initially I wasn't really a fan of the design, but then I did some diagrams and sideviews and it really grew on me. Love the new nacelles, too. Hope to get a decent model of the ship at some point. Hoping for a great Eaglemoss model.

Your uniform looks great as well. Now you just need the proper boots to rock it. :techman:

Thanks guys. :)

Yep, I have boots and pants that will work, just didn't get them out for the demo. I'll have some good photos taken of the whole thing on my Trek club's Bridge set in a few months when we get it all on display.

Thanks, I've gotten a lot of good feedback on the Discovery model, a few are already spoken for. :) I'm excited to try and replicate the coppery colored paint job, too.

More soon!

Wow! Awesome costuming, and an amazing USS Discovery!!!

In the words of a not-so-well-known villain, in another galaxy, many moons ago, 'I want that ship!'

:D As always, spectacular results, Madman!

In terms of 3-D prints--this news may be of interest

Smoother shapes do-able now?

Lots of goodness came out of the SIGGRAPH conference, (from 30 July to 3 August in Los Angeles.)
www.spacedaily.com/reports/Making_telescopes_that_curve_and_twist_999.html

New computational tool automates design of telescoping structures that provide compact storage and rapid deployment. Shown here: a complex telescoping lizard expands to many times its original volume, serving as a stress test of the method.

Now--I see this perhaps being useful for garage kits and packaging--as well as for space deployment of structures.

This might allow you to have a good way to break down large 3-D prints for large kits.

Yep, interesting stuff!

On the high end you can already get prints of of machines that look almost like they came out of an injection mold. For such a machine though, you're talking in the $40 grand and up range. :) In perspective there, I've got about $2500 in all of my equipment so far.

The telescoping shapes thing is intriguing, and the first thing that comes in mind are the collapsable space stations! But other shelters would be good too. :)

Out of curiosity, how big would you estimate the Discovery to be compared to the Constitution?

Not as large as some people are drawing comparisons up. :) If figure the two ships have a similarly sized saucer section, so Discovery wold be just a little bit longer than a Constitution.

Of course, that secondary hull is a lot wider and has a lot more volume, so the interior would be bigger. :)

Painted this thing yesterday... Still need to finish watching this show at some point! :D

Moya is about a foot long, and took longer to paint that it did to print, I think!

Also, started building my version of the new 1701-A. As always, doing my usual tweaks to proportions, etc. ;)

Thanks man!

Goofing off a little this afternoon. :) I've been hearing all the speculation on what the Enterprise might end up looking like if / when it shows up on Discovery, so I figured it might be neat to do a kitbash out of my Discovery parts into a Constitution class type of configuration.

Definitely far from done, but I think it could look pretty neat! Also, did a size comparison of how big I think Discovery is compared to the Enterprise.

Have fun guys. :)

Very cool concept! The idea that they could redesign the original Enterprise with Discovery aesthetics hadn't really crossed my mind. It will be interesting to see if they go for something radical like this (which I personally would like) or something more traditional along the lines of the original design.

Your rendition is great, but at the same time, to CBS: Oh, god, please, no. Leave the E the way it was. She was beautiful then. She's beautiful now.

Thanks guys! When I get around to finishing this one, I'll make sure it's named something besides Enterprise. ;) I hope they don't make any drastic changes either, but I wouldn't be surprised if they end up changing something.
