More 3D Printing

Got some construction going on with the Big E tonight... I'm using wooden dowel pins and steel rods to reinforce the model.
Since it is going to Ireland, I'll be shipping it in 4 parts. Assembly will be finished by simply sliding all of the parts together, on the steel rods.

The parts are a little rough on this one. I bought filament from Filament Outlet on Amazon, which isn't that good. I've switched to USAFIL, which seems to have a better finish. It just means more sanding on this one. :)

This one is going to take a while. :D

-Ricky

It may take a while, but what a piece when completed. I'm impressed by how simply it will end up all going together.
Amazing work!

Hey guys, I've been busy. :)

A few pics of what I've been working on.

Finished this one for a client... it's a Grumman HU16 Air Force rescue plane.

Almost ready to print this one... it'll be 11'' long!

And, the Big Enterprise is all in one piece. Got lots of sanding to do, though!

More soon... I'll be starting on an 18'' tall Starfleet Spacedock this week. :D

-Ricky

Sometimes, making individualized models leads to revisions. :)

Doing my research on the HU-16 "Albatross", I focused on the wrong version, and painted it totally wrong. The client actually flew on one operated by Pan-Am Airlines for Search and Rescue, instead of the regular Air Force Search and Rescue.

I removed all my decals, sanded again, re-primed it, and started over.

So, round two is over, it's finished, and I think it looks better now anyway. :D

-Ricky

Venator ready to print out. :) Moving on to the SpaceDock now!

It's 1/4105 scale (to match the client's Galactica model), so it'll be about 11 inches long. Headed to the printer tomorrow!

-Ricky

Those are sweet!
I am digging the Seaplane (sucker fer planes). Been looking to get a 144 scale Lockheed tr-2 Dragonlady Senior span as a 2-seater :)

Wow! Playing catchup on this thread!!! Fantastic stuff!!!

I'm loving those Alternative "MadUniverse" Constellation models!!! Very tempting!

On Topic today... finished an original Enterprise yesterday. :) It's a little bit bigger than the Polar Lights kit.

Back to work on my Spacedock now... been making good progress. I'm making 2 versions, one that will be 18" tall, and one that will be about 12'' tall.

More soon. :)

-Ricky

Thanks guys. :)

Oh, that would be neat! I could use bright LEDs in the bottom of the dome, and if it's about 18'' tall, it would be big enough to be a lamp.

-Ricky

Spacedock 3D model is done, ready for me to slice it up for printing. I took some liberties with the detailing, but I think it came out pretty good. :)

Thanks. :)

Yep, the things that new 3D printers are able to do are amazing. Eventually, I hope to upgrade to SLA printers, like the Carbon. Amazing stuff.

^As I was watching that video, the first thought in my mind was "Spock, ask Scotty how long it would take him to reproduce a hundred flintlocks."
