Ironically they couldn't afford horses. :lol:

Besides the costs of using real horses and handlers it would have been a headache to record them, set up takes and do all the post production work of dubbing the audio so they probably saved a lot more than just the cost of hiring horses. Instead of using real horses most film studios just tape a bunch of cats together.
 
The irony is that I think the horse is only in one scene, and I kind of forgot about it entirely until a reviewer kept harping on Authur's men for not using a horse. And that the one guy who used a horse is used to blame Arthur and his men for murder....even though they haven't used a horse the entire time.
