Moments for the Trekkies

For me, I had several favorite moments.

- Winona Kirks' communicator.

- The screens at the Vulcan School. Makes me think that this is how they always trained Vulcan children. That, and I liked the pit configuration.

- Seeing #47 in the Iowa shipyard. Glad to see Abrams and Co. are keeping the number legacy alive.

- McCoy and Spock going at it after Spock basically ejects Kirk from the Enterprise onto Delta Vega.

- Uhura's earpiece.

- Chekov's difficulty speaking his own clearance code.

- Sulu's fencing background put to practical use during the mission to Vulcan.

- some of Spock Prime's lines to Kirk on Delta Vega, especially "I have been, and always shall be, your friend". Even though it's Chris Pine, it felt like he was speaking to William Shatner, especially when Pine's Kirk was stating that coming back and changing the timeline was cheating, with Spock Prime's retort being spot on. That old familiarity never dies...

- Pike's uniform and chair in Kirk's promotion scene. I actually liked the admirals' uniform from TMP, and it was good to see it here. As for the chair, it was better utilized here after the fact that he was tortured and nearly killed. Still didn't change the fact that he's still one bad mother-

- The entire Kobayashi Maru scene. I actually liked that McCoy and Uhura were somewhat bored, fully expecting Kirk to fail yet again. Also, Kirk being smug during the test was also fun, knowing full well what he was doing. That, and the apple bit was inspired, and only hit me after I got back home and sat in front of the computer.

- mention of Admiral Archer's prized beagle. It's a veiled reference to "Enterprise", but I'd like to believe that Jonathan Archer married, settled down, and had kids, with some of them enlisting in Starfleet (being a fleet-based family, sort of like the Deckers). Surely one of them made it to Admiral, and kept the family tradition alive. During TNG, Data most likely had several cats named Spot. Who's to say that the Archers didn't keep naming the beagles Porthos?

- Scotty's line about getting her hands on the Enterprise's ample nacelles. Sounds like something the original Scotty might say.

- any scenes with Amanda Grayson in them. Winona Ryder was very quietly stoic in them, and it was a shame when they killed her off during the attack, but necessary to the story.

I'm sure more will come up soon...

Just a minor thing, but the uniforms on the Kelvin were a perfect evolutionary step between the ones worn in the TOS era and Archer's Enterprise era.

I didn't catch it, but is the name of the unseen, killed Senior Doctor on the Enterprise named Boyce?

Did anyone else think that Kirk winding up Spock to thump him was reminiscent of "This side of Paradise"?

I heard a mention of the senior officer being killed, but before i could catch the name, it was over, i didnt quite get it.

I dont think so though, unfortunately.

No, but now I am. Hmmm...have to dig out the episode and see it again, now that you've mentioned it.

Good catch there! Nicely done!

The ultimate fate of Porthos. :(

If that was Porthos, he is either the oldest dog ever or time travelled...

I've see nit twice now and I don't recall them specifically saying Porthos. They just said Admiral Archer's prized beagal.

NOw admiral Archer must be really old. if he was still alive at that point, unless it was a decendant of archer which is very possible too.

Even in the unaltered history and timeline, the TOS Defiant's computer bio of Archer had him living until around the age of 135, not dying until the first/original Enterprise(1701) was commissioned and launched in 2245.

Which we all know Shatner's Kirk did at least once. For several years straight.

missing some of the best ones!
spock-
"why did you marry her?"
sarek-
"at the time, it seemed the logical thing to do."
this is a classic quote from the end of TOS "journey to babel". that whole episode is a definite must see after watching the new movie.

all the 47's on voyager: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPoiH0JlQ9A

also think i should point out - majel only did the computer voice from the enterprise. the kelvin was not majel, and the jellyfish computer voice was susan gibney, who played dr. leah brahms; a nice touch since the countdown comics establishes that geordi designed and built the jellyfish.

TBH,so blown away was I during the entire movie that I never checked.Does anyone know if the uniform delta badges carried the old departmental symbols?
Thanks in advance.

I thought the ending seemed very much like First Contact with everyone one the Bridge just before leaving space dock.

Of course, the classic by all the characters. My only regret is that Bones didn't get a chance to say "He's dead Jim."
