For me, I had several favorite moments.
- Winona Kirks' communicator.
- The screens at the Vulcan School. Makes me think that this is how they always trained Vulcan children. That, and I liked the pit configuration.
- Seeing #47 in the Iowa shipyard. Glad to see Abrams and Co. are keeping the number legacy alive.
- McCoy and Spock going at it after Spock basically ejects Kirk from the Enterprise onto Delta Vega.
- Uhura's earpiece.
- Chekov's difficulty speaking his own clearance code.
- Sulu's fencing background put to practical use during the mission to Vulcan.
- some of Spock Prime's lines to Kirk on Delta Vega, especially "I have been, and always shall be, your friend". Even though it's Chris Pine, it felt like he was speaking to William Shatner, especially when Pine's Kirk was stating that coming back and changing the timeline was cheating, with Spock Prime's retort being spot on. That old familiarity never dies...
- Pike's uniform and chair in Kirk's promotion scene. I actually liked the admirals' uniform from TMP, and it was good to see it here. As for the chair, it was better utilized here after the fact that he was tortured and nearly killed. Still didn't change the fact that he's still one bad mother-
- The entire Kobayashi Maru scene. I actually liked that McCoy and Uhura were somewhat bored, fully expecting Kirk to fail yet again. Also, Kirk being smug during the test was also fun, knowing full well what he was doing. That, and the apple bit was inspired, and only hit me after I got back home and sat in front of the computer.
- mention of Admiral Archer's prized beagle. It's a veiled reference to "Enterprise", but I'd like to believe that Jonathan Archer married, settled down, and had kids, with some of them enlisting in Starfleet (being a fleet-based family, sort of like the Deckers). Surely one of them made it to Admiral, and kept the family tradition alive. During TNG, Data most likely had several cats named Spot. Who's to say that the Archers didn't keep naming the beagles Porthos?
- Scotty's line about getting her hands on the Enterprise's ample nacelles. Sounds like something the original Scotty might say.
- any scenes with Amanda Grayson in them. Winona Ryder was very quietly stoic in them, and it was a shame when they killed her off during the attack, but necessary to the story.
I'm sure more will come up soon...
