Moments for the Trekkies

Loads of moments which quite made this for me. One not mentioned so far is Uhura wearing an 'original' earpiece for communications. And oddly, it didn't look dated.

I might just be imagining things, but there was an alien aboard the Kelvin who looked like "Arex" from TAS.

"Are you out of your Vulcan mind??!"

I'm pretty sure I saw a nameplate for Adm. Lenard in the trial scene after Kirk's Kobayashi Maru.

One wonders if the Commendation he received at the end of the film was for "original thinking".

Not sure if this is mentioned but McCoy's reference to his divorce was definitely something I noticed.

McCoy's being driven to Starfleet because of his divorce has been with the series since the 1960s. An episode that was supposed to deal with it and introduce McCoy's daughter was heavily re-written and that backstory was never discussed on-screen. So they definitely held true to certain aspects of Trek with this reference.

they don't look particularly similar, but they're certainly not the same species. Intel's tie-in site says where Anschloss K'beynter is from.

Really? The first thought I had was Arex, and someone put a picture of the two side-by-side and I can see the similarities. I don't know Arex's back-story though.

Did anyone else notice how the lights over all of the bridge stations (and transporter console) closely resembled the intercom units that were on the Enterprise from the original pilot (The Cage)? The appeared to be on adjustable arms, just like in the pilot.

I just saw the movie again, I saw the tribble this time. It is on the edge of his desk, on the left side. There is a very brief closeup of it as the camera pans to the left onto Scotty.

Uhura's ear-thingy from the original series. There were numerous McCoy on-liners, but I think the people in the theater laughed the hardest at "Dammit, Jim! I'm a doctor, not a _____".

I think most have been mentioned here, but did you notice that the communicators used on the Kelvin had a gold colored flip up grid as a cover.:bolian:

I know it wasn't intentional but Spock telling Kirk to get out of the Captain's Chair reminded me of Picard on TNG.

I loved that Uhura repeatedly refused to tell Kirk her first name, she was afterall the only original series character not given a first name during the television show or movies.

Yes! I caught onto this, too. It was a total insider's joke that only the die-hard fans would understand. I was pleased that, when her name was finally revealed, it was Nyota - something long established in the non-canon Star Trek novels.

I just thought of two more:
- I am pretty sure they said 47 Klingon Ships were destroyed.
Indeed they did. Its funny how that number keeps on popping up

Indeed, Here's another 47 (spoiler): http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b44/trekkiedane/Images/SciFi/ST-47.jpg

And that support beam they keep putting in the shot in the transporter room; one side reads something containing "3110" and the other side is marked "6110" -clearly that's a hidden 47!

Oh, yeah, who asked for a 42? -I've found one! ...Acting Captain's log Stardate 2258.42... :p

ETA:
Where was the tribble?

At Kirk's hearing the guy sitting just to the right of the foreman (from our perspective) has the name James Komack. James Komack also happens to be the name of a guy that directed an ep of TOS.

First off, saw the movie on Thursdays advanced preview. AWSOME.

  • The first thing in the entire movie that we hear was the Kelvins scanner beeps.:techman: Loved it, brilliant as its the first sound effect we hear, and it was prominant part of TOS.
  • Pike in the wheelchair at the end, wasnt expecting that at all. Nice touch, even though it was played as though he was recovering from injuries, we may yet see his fate in a sequel. And, i too noticed his TMP inspired uniform, nice touch.
  • The classic TOS communicators for the Kelvins era, even had TOS pip sounds, they were altered a bit for the Enterprise communicators later on.
  • Obviously Uhuras ear piece.
  • Nurse Chapel, didnt catch that, missed it completely. Ill look out when i see it next.
  • McCoy--isms: :techman: "Are you out of your Vulcan mind?" - "You green blooded...." - "Dammit, Jim. Im a doctor, not a physicist" "Good God, Man" ;)
  • I didnt pick up on Kirk eating an apple during the simulation/genesis cave, nice catch. Also, a nice touch to have had Spock programme the simulation, a nice nod to TFF where he tested the new un-escapable brigg.:)
  • Kirk asking Spock about his father in Spocks timeline. a touching scene acted and scripted well.
