Moffat discusses the regeneration limit

To play Moffat's Clues we gotta find a... (Crack!)
A Crack, right! And that's our first... (clue!)
A clue? (A clue!)
Then we put it in our... (notebook!)
Cause they're Moffat's Clues, Moffat's Clues!
We gotta find another crack, that's the second clue
We put it in our notebook
Cause they're whose clues? Moffat's Clues!
We gotta find the last Crack, that's the third clue
We put it in our notebook
Cause they're Moffat's Clues, Moffat's Clues!
You know what to do!
Sit down in our Thinking Chair and think...think...think!
Cause when we use our mind, take a step at a time we can do anything...that we wanna do!

(I was a Dad once.)

That's absolutely beautiful. My kids are a few years past Blue's Clues now, but the scars remain. Now I'm going to have that song stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

Tennant coming back as a bad guy is the worst idea since Spike becoming a good guy in Buffy.
Or the Enterprise finale being usurped by TNG has-beens.

Seriously, if this happens I'm done watching Who. Tennant has had his day; stay the hell away and let Smith have his.

Unless of course Eleven kills off Ten in some spectacular way, then I'd have to have a peek at the ending.

Yeah, me either. I'm assuming it either hit the cutting room floor, it was sooo "cheeky" we didn't catch it, or it's in Neil Gaiman's story that's been pushed to next year. Anyone?

I read somewhere (possibly this very forum) that the Moff was referring to a forthcoming RTD-written Sarah Jane Adventures story.

I shamelessly and baselessly predict that the "regeneration limit" will be casually dispensed with using a throw-away line. If I am correct, I shall expect adulation. If I am wrong, I shall deny everything and hope this post quietly sinks into the depths of the Internet and no-one remembers it. ;)

Even as far back as the classic Who series, it was said that a Time Lord could be granted a new regeneration cycle--and thus presumably another twelve regenerations. The Master was even offered a new regeneration cycle by the Time Lords at one point...after this, the idea that there would only be thirteen Doctors seemed unlikely to me if the series ever went that far. Either there would be a fourteenth Doctor or a new first Doctor, IMO...

How about this scenario?

Doc 13 trips over a brick and appears to die. Does the whole glowy energy thing, regenerates. Sarah Jane Smith, who's back with him in a Very Special Crossover, says, "But I thought timelords have only 12 regenerations?"

Doc 14 says, "I'll explain it to you later," and off they stroll, arm in arm.

It could be a cool thing if they set it up early on, and have the doc discover a regen machine in some far off forgotten time lord space base, abandoned time lord laboratory or something.. and pretty much they leave that section for another day.. like say the end of 13's run as the doc..should the series continue that plot device could yield a good storyline..

say the already corrupt Barusa took the falling beast body of Morbius out of time, and saved him from his fall using a transmat device or the time scoop, this would be before the events of the 5 docs.. and then the doctor encounters him on one of these bases, Morbius restored but only in human form, not a time lord.. no regens, they wanted to use his brilliant mind to help the time lords in their war.... Morbi has been trying to build a regen machine for himself and the doc has to stop his plot somehow..Morbi escaped the time war and then the machine is left there for future episodes to touch base with should they need it..

make it exciting like the regen machine is just a prototype and could kill the already aging 13..or grant him another 12 regens.. and then to build up suspense, they could do the procedure, and then act like the 13th doc died.. and do a delayed regen with the 14th arising just at the end of season 3 of the 13th docs run..

so let me se, if we are to go by past time lord series.. 3 years is the average right?? so matt does another 3 (contracted) assuming he leaves at season 3-4 that puts it at 2013 and we get the 12th doc.. he does his run leading to the 13th ver..at year 2017. so another 3 year run and we end up with the regen machine story line in 2021..

We have plenty of time..:techman:

God I hope not.. that would suckass.. and would really piss me off as a viewer.. I'd be like What? what?

and as customary in the Middle East, I would have to throw my shoe at the TV..:techman::guffaw:

Yep, quite a few of us have made the same prediction. I hope it happens, too. A less throw-away approach would also work.

But do it they must!

:D

Wait - going back to the start, who was the Bad guy? We heard a voice in the last couple of episodes but we didn't see the Bad guy did we? It's still a mystery, right?

Yes, the big bad is still a mystery.

The bid bad is Prisoner Zero. Moffatt said the big bad would make an appearance in The Eleventh Hour. Considering the last words Zero spoke in TEH was Silence will Fall in a very similar fashion to what we heard in the Tardis in The Big Bang (yep, go back and rewatch) it's highly likely this is who we're dealing with next season,

Something else to consider re regeneraton limit: Prisoner Zero. Matt Smith is Eleven.

Y'know, there were some comparisons between Prisoner Zero & the Master from the TV movie, as far as that snakelike appearance.

Another evil timelord perhaps? Having been reduced to that form.

Prisoner Zero as it "appeared", would be as undramatic as Belgium.

As far as the regen limit, I'm in the camp that thinks: no timelords, no limitations. He's already regenerated at least twice sine the timelords went away, so they aren't necessary to the process.

I choose to believe it is the Artron energy that changes him.. and that Timelord DNA was constructed to interact with this power source, thus providing regeneration..Artron energy is like pure thought energy... and can manipulate matter.. the time lords can use that energy and reformat their cellular structure.. but they are limited somehow.

romana could use her mind to choose different bodies during her regen cycle.. and switch between them, which I assume is her unique ability..(similar to the doctor regrowing his hand by pure thought) as I think most time lords have little control over who they want to be, or the doctor just likes the randomness of it all, and sometimes expects him to become ginger at some point..

which never happens..

anyhow, I think that there might be a new cycle that may be given should the series continue.. which could be done through the intro of a regen cycle machine.. which may have fallen through the cracks of the time war..

either way, I think that we may have another 12 life run of the doctor..if popularity permits..

artron energy was what rose tyler used to defeat the daleks themselves in the 1 season..and is a mentally controlled energy which resembles the doctor's regeneration energy.. also, could it be that his regens outside the tardis go wrong for lack of artron energy to aid in the process??

I doubt if it's Prisoner Zero, he'd be destoryed along with the rest of the universe, not a smart move to make. It might've been the shadow that appeared in one scene though behind the Doctor and Amy.

the big bad is SPIKE... we all know it..or is it the 1st.. I am so confused now...
