Modern Warfare2 General Thread

If I could deal with the iron sights I'd like your setup quite a bit. The last couple of days I've been rocking the FAL, and it's been going well. Pretty much sticking with my standard assault rifle class with it, holo sight (for the improved damage, not because I like it better than RDS), silencer, semtex, raffica silenced/RDS, bling (duh), stopping power, and sitrep.

The FAL was completely useless for me on Xbox, but on PC it's a complete beast. It's pretty easy to put two shots on someone, and that's all you need. I have the occasional embarrassing failure at close range but for the most part I've been doing really well with it.

Even got a nuke today on Wasteland in a free-for-all. Chopper gunner got me from kill 11 to kill 25... but my harrier got zero kills and someone shot it down. I saw chaff once from my apache, which means someone must've been firing something.. but I guess I managed to keep shooting that guy before he got another shot off, or something. I got to killstreak 25 at kill #27... and then I just stopped firing the chopper gunner in case I accidentally killed extra dudes sitting around with cold-blooded or something. After not getting to use last nuke I couldn't let that happen. Final score 33-3.

The kill that got me my useless harrier was pretty funny. I was fighting outside of that little shack. Sitrep told me there was a claymore in there by one of the doors... but I kept running into people while trying to figure out how I wanted to deal with it. Finally I got a moment and I went for the bullet penetration to explode it. To my surprise I got the 'you hit somebody cursor' and spammed another 6-7 shots through to get the kill. I have no idea what that guy was doing but he must've been camping there for 2 or 3 minutes with my raging firefight outside never so much as willing to take a peak. All that camping to be unceremoniously dropped like that

You mentioned switching your ACR class to stealth mode as soon as a UAV shows up. I've starded just shooting UAVs down with the FAL.... takes less than a magazine with stopping power pro.

Oh, one of the main benefits of the FAL that I was looking to mention... with the silencer it's pretty quiet. If you're picking off someone at medium range, it takes two shots that make very little noise. It's not very jarring. Whereas FAMAS or M16, even with the silencer, those three shot bursts seem to draw a lot more attention. I don't really remember how well that went wit the ACR back when I used it silenced. The thing is it takes like 5 shots to the chest to bring someone down... so it seems like more exposure than I'd like.

After getting the nuke I went to a care package heavy killstreak setup. I think it's care package, air strike, and emergency air drop. Since the care package won't add to your killstreak regardless. And the airstrike is mostly just for fun, sometimes it doesn't get anyone, if I aim well I might get 2-3, but it's not really reliable, it makes my frame of mind a little different. I'm not so concerned about using the stuff as soon as I get it to chain together the kill streaks. I stick with the shooting, and then when it's safe I'll toss whatever air drop markers I have and hope for the best. This newfound patience led me to discover a handy trick. When I get a chopper gunner or an AC130 out of a care package, I no longer crack open the laptop like a kid tearing the wrapping off a Christmas present... I tell the game that I would like my Danger Close tubing class, and go out in a blaze of glory. Then when I have my danger close on, it's time for the AC130. I can't believe I didn't think of doing this before, I guess it's probably since I'm usually trying to use the 11 kill rewards as a springboard to a nuke. But man does danger close make that stuff so much more deadly. You can drop those explosive rounds into lots of doors and openings to kill the hiding bastards. Yeah, there are still some maps that are...poor... for chopper gunner or AC130, but it's still a big help. I seem to get the 11 kill streaks out of care packages decently frequently. Yeah, it's usually just a UAV or something, but I get a lot more 4 kill streaks than I do 11. And the emergency airdrop at 8 still isn't too bad to get to. My last care package/EAD double feature gave me a Predator, a Chopper Gunner, a Pave Low, and two Sentry Guns. The Sentry Guns landed outside the fence because it's annoying to line up the EAD... but even with that portion squandered that's a pretty good haul for 8 kills.

Accidentally stummbled into a hacked server yesterday. One kill was worth enough XP to toss me straight from level 47 to level 70. It's not really that big of a deal, but I must admit that I'm a little irked over that. I was rather enjoying working my way up the ranks, and now I'm done because of a server I had no real choice in joining unless I prestige (which I won't do because I love my guns and unlocks way too much).

I've been having issues the past few days making the M16 play nice for me, but I've fallen in love with switching to the AUG HBAR when that happens. That gun gets me back on a roll when I can't seem to get anything going with the M16. I've had a huge mix of game qualities the past few days.... Sometimes I'll have a 1.0+ kill to death ratio, and sometimes I'll have a 0.1 KtD ratio. I'm not sure if I'm helping or hurting my stats.

Well, it's a bit late... but I think if you pull the ethernet cord and teriminate the process, or dashboard, or just pull the power you could've prevented the stats from saving. On PC I have on Prestige done, a hacked lobby took me from like level 15 to 70 first time around, and from 67 to 70 on first prestige. On Xbox I have 2nd prestige wrapped up and if I recall that part was all legit. But at this point I just don't feel like unlocking all the crap again, even if there's a double XP weekend. It's not just the levels, which take a while, it's all the Pro perks, and various sights and stuff. I think I'm just going to try to unlock everything for every weapon now. Might be kind of tough since I don't think I've spawned myself once with a riot shield or sniper rifle on the PC version yet and I have like 4 days of play time now. My only issue is that the first prestige icon is kind of ugly, the 2nd prestige I have on Xbox looks much better.

I'm loving this Double XP weekend. Been playing Hardcore S&D a lot, and been getting into double figures on kills. At this rate, I'll be hitting my next prestige by tomorrow. :D

Yeah, I'd shelved MW2 for a few weeks, but I just switched from DSL to cable (best move ever!) and decided to see if I could notice any difference in playing online. Just in time for double XP weekend! I've jumped up like twelve levels in two days (about five or six hours' playing time, combined). :D

I left town and missed whole weekend of 2x. :( Then jumped on last night and scored 20,000 xp without it. LOL.

Are any of you getting the Resurgence pack? At this point, I'll probably pass on it. I've barely got to play the Stimulus package so far, because some of the regulars I've played with don't have it. Come to think of it, the only ones that do are people I bought it for. Hmm.....

I got to level 40 last weekend during the double xp weekend. I haven't played much since then, but I'm excited to get some time with the M16A4 whenever I play next. I also had some fun with claymores, scavenger, cold blooded and ninja, which I hadn't really use much before. It was pretty cheap, but hilarious to see one guy after another walk through the same doorway into my claymore.

I'll be getting the 2nd map pack for sure. Everyone screams that it is 15 bucks and a rip off. Well going to a movie costs about that much, and I'm sure I'll get more than 2 hours of enjoyment out of the new maps.

I'll probably get it for Xbox and PC... again. So that'll be about $30 for me! To expand on the movie analogy, the Star Wars Prequels, and that new Indiana Jones, plus popcorn and soda collectively were waaaaay more expensive than that. And I got 0 hours of enjoyment, so I'll come out ahead too :)

I bought the Stimulus pack a few days ago, but stopped playing because the maps are still only available in the Stimulus playlists on PC. I might get resurgence, but I'm going to wait at least a month after it's released so I can play the new maps on the game modes that I want to play.

I'm definitely getting the map pack on my lunch break today. Can't wait. For all the time I'm going to spend on them, 15 bucks seems like a pretty good deal to me. Plus I really liked the two maps they're bringing back from the first MW.

I had confused Strike with another map which I don't like. I was excited to see that bother 'classic' maps were ones I enjoy.

On the other hand, being really tired today, and not having played the console version in a while, I got very frustrated with the lack of precision in the controls. Probably doesn't help that I was trying to rock the FAL... waaaay more usable on PC.

That new map pack looks pretty sweet. Looks like I'll be doing some downloading when I get the chance.

Been playing the new maps in various game types(stupid Resurgence playlist). They are still new so how people approach them is still fresh and changing which is always nice.

Fuel, I love how huge the map is. It really gives snipers a lot of extremely long sight lines to play with. There is also enough cover and alternate routes so that you can avoid the snipers if needed. The tunnel will also let you slip inside and rush that annoying sniper. The map feels really empty with 6 v. 6 teams however, it demands to be played with 9 v. 9, and even double that number would not feel too crowed on it. For any objective based games Tactical Insertion is a must have. Being able to spawn near the domination point, or headquarters, or whatever, makes you a force multiplier since you're not wasting time running back to the fight. I have single-handedly won it for my team of random scrubs on several headquarters and sabotage games by using Tactical Insertion wisely.

Carnivale, it is the busiest map in the game so far visually. Colors everywhere, which makes staying motionless more effective. I know for my own part that I am much more keyed to watch for motion than color on this particular map, as compared to many others. It is really an easy map to defend on with a ton of great vantage points as well as chokepoints for claymores. I haven't really decided if I like it or not, but it is unique and interesting that is for sure.

Trailer Park, small fast tight quarters map. It is a little too small for most objective games because the time between you killing an enemy and them respawning and getting back into range of revenge killing you is generally under 10 seconds. It works alright for team deathmatch. You won't really be spawn trapping the other team, and the map is so small that flipping the spawn is really easy to do. Even though the geometry is completely different from Scrapyard, I think it plays much the same way, although with less camping because there are no warehouses overlooking the rest of the map. I have a hunch everyone is going to start using noobtubes on it, similar to Terminal.

Overall the second map pack is far superior to the first map pack.

Overall the second map pack is far superior to the first map pack.

Not a chance.

I'm afraid that I've already deleted the new map from my HD.

Whilst Strike is great, and Vacant is good fun, the new maps are awful. Despite looking great, they're all heavily biased towards a camping strategy. There's no balance to them whatsoever. Whilst maps like Storm, Salvage and Bailout all require varied styles of play, these new maps simply reward not moving.

Everyone knows the troubles that have blighted IW recently, and it's widely believed that Activision would be shutting them down once they'd delivered this map pack. To me, this is reflected in the quality of the maps. They're a rush job that whilst looking nice have clearly not been thoroughly tested and scrutinised. The emphasis, quite clearly was to get them out asap so that they can put the IW debacle behind them.

It's a shame that you can't separate out Strike and Vacant as they're in a different class to Fuel, Trailer and Carnival, which again, for the avoidance of doubt, are fcuking awful.

Fuel does encourage camping no doubt, but unless you're in one of the middle buildings you're not going to get enough traffic through your kill-zone to make it worthwhile. And unless you have a couple of clan-mates guarding your back those middle buildings have way too many entry points to effectively camp.

Salvage and Bailout by comparison are easy to camp, with just one or two avenues of approach and flat level terrain perfect for noobtubes. Using OMA, DC, claymores and noobtube I can(and have) easily set up shop on both those maps and gotten nukes without moving. I think it would be much more difficult to do on any of the Resurgence maps.

You can make the claim that the Resurgence maps favor camping more than the Stimulus maps, but I disagree entirely. In a week or two once people have solidified how they play the new maps we'll see who is right.

I don't camp. Not on Carnival or Trailer Park. I was struggling at first on Trailer Park, then I got pissed and went running with the MP5K. 11-4 the first time and 21-5 the second time. Campers = Corpses on that map. Carnival, I just keep moving. Targets present themselves. Not really running but moving all of the time. As for FUEL-its not camping if you control 3/4 of the map. There is a spawn issue on Fuel. We pushed them back to the little parking garages and they didn't spawn behind us!?! They had maybe 15% of the map-we basically spawn killed them. Overall, I like the new maps as they have many options and Strike is my beastly map anyway. Could have done without Vacant-had enough in the beta of MW1 and all the matches I played on that game.
