Modern Warfare2 General Thread

you know, I actually like the m21 EBR with the ACOG scope, first time I used it i got a game of 21-3 (if only there was a way to stop the rifle sway while ADS)

steady-aim?

Steady aim pretty much doubles the time you can hold the 'steady' button when using a 'real' scope. It also tightens the hip-fire spread when you're not aiming down the sight. The sway he's referring to happens on some weapons/sights, I'm not sure of the details, but I assume that's what he's referring to. For example, if you put extra sights onto an AK47, when you ADS there is a (minor) sway which you can't stop.

I may reinstall the new maps later and have another go.

Switched my killstreak rewards the other night to Predator>>Precision Airstrike>>Harrier

First two games were 40+ kills and single figure deaths. Although it dispenses with the high killstreak rewards like Chopper Gunner and AC130, it's still very effective. The very first time I used Precision Airstrike I got the Wargasm tag.

Using lower kill streaks is a lot less frustrating than trying to get the high end ones. I've been doing UAV, Counter UAV, and Attack Helicopter lately. Even though the heli is a piece of crap, I'm just trying to level it up some. I think you need 1,000 kills with it to get all the emblems and I an at 73... I'm not sure how many helicopters I've called in, but I think something just popped up a couple of games ago that it was 50... so I'm probably averaging like 1.25 kills per attack helicopter

I guess I just need to call in about... 800 of those bastards and I'm set.

One of the odd achievements - shooting down x number of helis with the stinger. Odd in that it's specific to helis and doesn't include taking down Harriers.

Must admit, I make a point of taking down air support now. Didn't used to bother me too much as I just switch to a cold-blooded class. However, it becomes clear that a lot of your team mates don't, get rinsed, which incurs more air support and probably a lost game. Now, I just carry around a stinger setup (with cold-blooded) and take them down as soon as they come in. Plus - always very satisfying to take down someone's chopper gunner mere seconds after it's arrived on the scene!

My thinking exactly! My latest hobby-shoot the final harrier as it screeches to a halt. Pisses off the other team when you do this 3-4 times in a match.

Yeah, I love doing that, too. I carry a Stinger on every class except for my Sniper one. It's great fun. :techman:

i use the AT4 and often engage Harriers and helicopters.

you only need to down one helicopter to get the 'fly swatter' accolade.

today, i took down an enemy Cobra with an AT-4 shot and a burst from my M4 before it even fired on anyone. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!1

i took down two Harriers tuesday with sustained M4 fire after hitting it with the AT4...

Last night I got an AC130, a Hind, 2 Pavelows and a handful of Harriers. And I killed myself by shooting a Javelin into a window frame. LOL.

Good God, Capture the Flag is so frustrating in this game. All everyone does is sit around their flag and wait for people actually playing the objective to show up. It's Capture the Flag, dammit, not Camp the Flag! :scream:

^Yeah... for better or worse, I've given up on trying to get flags and have started focusing on trying to frag as many of the campers as possible before one of them gets me. With that said, if you can manage to get to the flag, and get it out of the flag area, then it's mostly clear sailings all the way back to base.

True. I'm usually the one going after the flag on my team, so I always end up taking the brunt of the enemy campers' punishment. But it's not entirely the enemy team that camps. Just earlier today I was playing a CTF match on Skidrow. I'd captured the enemy flag and took the long way back to my team's flag, but an enemy player had captured our flag, so I couldn't finish the job and score us a point. So I hunkered down near our flag point to defend myself until one of my teammates could get our own flag back, but instead of going after the enemy flag carrier, nearly everyone else on my team just planted themselves around me waiting for the other team to come and try to get their flag back. :scream:

Because of that, one of the enemy team got a care package with an airstrike, and he called it down on our flag position, killing all of us and making me drop the flag, which they then retrieved.

So much to learn young Padawan. I don't know if you've unlocked the stinger, but it's a killstreak wrecking machine on account of getting two shots, and it's also more powerful than AT4, Harrier goes down in one hit every time.

My favorite thing to do, when the enemy has a Harrier and Pave Low out at the same time (Pave Low usually takes two shots on its own, one to force it to deploy flares, and a second to take it out), I'll see if the Pave Low is getting close to the Harrier. If it is, take out the Harrier with one shot and the secondary explosion will take out the Pave Low, or Apache, or Hind.... it's usually a Pave Low though... bigger target too so easier to get the secondary on your side.

My SMG class (Marathon/Lightweight/Ninja) is a must for CTF and certain objective games. Smoke grenades are a great tool. Toss the grenade ahead of you at the objective... make sure to lead yourself so you arrive in a fully formed cloud of smoke without breaking stride. Really helps crack heavily camped flags. Also great for a quick plant at the start of a round in SnD or Demolition, and planting and defusing in general.

As for my gameplay lately.... I went and collected the 10 EMPs for the challenges. Good time, nowhere near as frustrating as trying to nab a nuke. Though one game on Quarry with my SMG class (above + silenced ump) in demolition I ran through the middle and over the blocks to A, flanked their entire team and unleashed my Harrier/Pavelow combo. Nobody seemed to have cold-blooded, and nobody gave a rat's ass about shooting either air support down, so I started the game off 46-2 , I really wish I had the nuke instead of EMP there, game would've been over in like 2 minutes. Finished something like 56-8 though, good times.

I've been working on doing the complete unlocks for various weapons. ARs, SMGs, and LMGs probably is the goal... and I'll throw in all the secondaries as their challenges tend to be not bad. The Sniper rifles probably won't be worth it because I have zero interest in sniping. Most of the unlocks aren't too bad, but the FMJ ones are torture. You need 40 kills with each weapon via bullet penetration. I think 20 would've been more appropriate. The shotgun unlock is 20 noob tube kills I think for ARs, and I mean... I can probably get 500 tube kills in the same time it takes me to get the 40 FMJ kills. The ARs aren't too bad... but doing the Uzi today took pretty much a whole 8 hour shift! And I had to try ridiculous stuff. Find a guy, put 2-3 bullets in him (not easy with the Uzi rate of fire to even control that much), and then try to slide behind some cover and hope the penetration could finish him off. Hell, there were times where I'd empty a full magazine into a thin looking wall, getting probably a dozen hit markers without a kill. Very frustrating. I think I need stopping power for these maybe... and hardcore mode. In fact, hardcore mode must be the answer. 30 health I can manage.

A good CTF team has 2 defenders, 2 strikers and a grabber with bodyguard. The 2 strikers hit the campers around the enemy flag to let the grabber run in(marathon and cold blooded a must) while the bodyguard escorts the grabber back. If the enemy team is kill farming around their flag you use 3 strikers and one defender. The key is to race to the flag as soon as the round starts and grab it fast-you can cap over and over like that.

Having someone guarding your own flag in CTF is essential. But offensively, tactical insertion is critical. plant your insertion as close to the enemy flag as possible without it getting seen, and then just keep going in and flushing out the defenders until you can get a decent grab.
