Modern Warfare2 General Thread

After playing BF:BC2 beta the last week, I ordered MW2 and BF:BC1 over the weekend. I read a lot about MW2, mostly negative, from the BF crowd and decided to give it a chance myself.

They're totally different games. I generally prefer BF multiplayer though, especially since all the spam that has been introduced in the new game. 1 grenade - fine. Harriers and Choppers and junk like that? No thanks.

Better "spam" as you call it than hacks, which I encountered in BF:BC when I tried to play it on multiplayer.

Anyone know when/if/what Infinity Ward might be patching MW2? There are several glitches that are beginning to become public knowledge on the 360 that take a good deal of the fun out of multiplayer. Probably the worst at the moment is the Javalin/Semtex kamikaze glitch.

They posted some info on Twitter-that glitch will be fixed in next update but no word when.

Really? I stopped playing after I reached the top rank, but I don't remember any explicit exploits being used. And hell, MW2 has a lot of exploits now - the Afghan map exploit, the drone exploit and the infinite care package exploit. It's essentially broken now, if you care about the game at all.

My original point still stands though. In BF:BC, you know you were killed by someone who got a bead on you because you weren't careful, not because someone managed to string killstreaks together to get the AC-130/nuke.

Of course, I know I could play hardcore mode... but I like Domination (Probably because it's the closest to BF-style gameplay), so that's the way it goes.

I'm HC all the way-and only the Afghan exploit annoys me. Most of the others can be stopped.

If there was 18 player Hardcore Domination, I'd play that mode exclusively and be happy. But Domination can only be played in Groundwar... so there it is.

I also just miss the wide open maps of CoD1, but I understand those are never, ever coming back in a CoD game. City streets just naturally make killing funnels, and that keeps the game "moving" or some such.

32 players, with jeeps, no tanks on the big wide open United Offensive maps was the way to go, whatever the base assault mode was called was great... in quite a few ways the newer games are taking steps backwards... maybe I'll reinstall my UO and see if there are any servers out there.

CoD Classic multi on the Xbox is pretty laggy and underwhelming, though maybe now that they're releasing it for purchase the community will grow a little and the matchmaking will improve.

Making my way through the campaign again, this time on Veteran. It really is easier than MW1, I think.

Except for that level in the favela. That was a pain in the keister. :scream:

Oh, it's tremendously easier. Fewer grenades and finite spawns means you can hide for the most part and let your unkillable-AI mop up dudes for you.

The last two missions were pretty pathetic (in terms of difficulty). I breezed through them. I remember it taking me ages to get through the final missions in COD4, particularly "No Fighting in the War Room."

I mean, I still find the campaign entertaining, but I'm not sure if I should be happy or disappointed that I beat the campaign on Veteran in one day when it took me...er...not one day to beat it in COD4.

I like short campaigns... when games drag for 20 hours with nothing but busywork to show for it... that's where I get mad.

Campaign + SpecOps in MW2 is more than enough content for the price IMO.

I look at it this way. I played the last two CoD games on casual because they were too cheap. I'm not looking for that kind of difficulty in my games. Meanwhile, I grinded through veteran in the campaign and Spec-Ops in MW2 because it felt much more fair - even if I exploited the weak AI several times.

My total time in both modes is about 38 hours. So I think that's a overwhelming success.

Honestly, to old PC players, MW2 is sort of like the Prequel Trilogy to Star Wars fans. We live in the past and think that the "Originals" were better. And hey, I'm just as guilty as the rest of them.

But with Star Wars the originals were in fact better.

And CoD1 (multiplayer) is in fact better than MW2. ;)

It's just one of those things that happens all the time. Kids probably look at the OT and think it's shit because it looks considerably worse than the PT. Halo kids piss off Goldeneye 64 kids because THAT was the true first console FPS. Goldeneye 64 kids piss off Quake 1/Team Fortress kids because why would anyone play split screen on a single TV when you can play 32 players online? It goes on and on.
