I heard this during the Mets broadcast today...Dustin Pedroia (in many ways, the Redsox equivalent of David Wright) got ahold of a number ‘5’ from the Green Monster’s manually operated scoreboard, and presented it to David as a parting gift. Linky

I thought that was a really cool and classy thing to do. :techman:

Agreed. It’s nice to see Wright getting such a nice sendoff—and I’m a Phillies fan! However, I vividly remember the entire Mets dugout giving Ryan Howard a standing ovation when he left the field at Citizens Bank Park for the last time. David Wright deserves the same kind of treatment.
 
Yeah, Wright was always one of my favorite guys to watch: Consummate professional, could absolutely rake it when he was on his game, and, man, if I could see him and Anthony Rizzo in their prime scumming insane throws at the corners with one another, that would probably be the best shit.

I do have to say, though, that I'm rather disgusted by the way the Wilpons are handling this; they're very carefully phrasing everything they say about the end of his career as saying it's on "hiatus" or whatever, not that he's officially retiring (because if he retires, then they're on the hook for the money that his contract injury insurance has been paying out).

Those fucking cheapskates should have been forced out of baseball at the same time McCourt was.

About their only saving grace is that it's now mathematically impossible for them to lose more than 120 games this year.

Both Duquette's and Buck's contracts are up after the season and I fully expect them to be gone.
 
I am rooting for the Tampa Bay Rays to catch the Yankees and take the second wildcard spot. They only need to win the next 13 games in a row and have the Yankees win less than 5 over their next 13.
That would be an epic finish.
 
The Cubs, after saying for like three months that he'd be back in a week or two, have said that Brandon Morrow is shut down for the season.

Yeah, this team is going nowhere if they manage to make the postseason.
 
I'd love to see the Rockies come out of nowhere in the West and scare the bejezus out of the fancier teams. Eh, and folks in hell would love a glass of ice water.

But it won't be due to missing Morrow. It'll be because their starters melt down, or because the offense goes into hibernation again, or because Maddon goes into mad scientist mode....again.

Does MLB have no.power to step in and protect player health? Or at least the MLBPA. The Mets situation is an epidemic.

Addison Russell can burn in hell, as far as I'm concerned. And I say that as a lifelong Cubs fan.
