I can't say for a Sox fan like Tom, but as a Giants Fan (Who I think might have a different perspective based on the avidness of fan and geography), I would be inscensed, probably curse and yell a few times, but then in the long run I would get over it.
I've been thinking about this a lot. Jim Joyce is a damn good umpire. I like him not because he's the guy with the loud but hilarious Strike Call "Striiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiikkkkkkkkk", but because he is an umpire with a great reputation. You say he will get booed the next time he's in Detroit. Let me ask a question. Has Ed Hoculi done a game in San Diego since the infamous incomplete pass call? I don't think Joyce will be allowed near Detroit again.
I guess being a neutral fan, I'm struggling with this because I really do like Joyce a lot. I've not heard but did he come out and make a statement? I don't like that umpires don't take accountability for their actions and hide behind the Union, but for some reason, I don't think Joyce is that kind of guy. Also, he did lose his chance to umpire Playoff games, and I think that, and a sizable fine, and maybe selig stepping in and giving the perfect game to Galleraga, that all seems like a reasonable punishment.
