It's also nice that the Met's aren't a complete waste of flesh. It's amazing what Ike did for that team

Give 'em another few weeks, they'll come back to Earth, as much as I wish otherwise.

Wow, the Giants won on 5th starter night? Wellemayer might have been exercising some inner demons because he did look good tonight. The Giants have a shot to sweep the Phillies out of SF with our Ace going. That should be fun.

I was thinking about your post as Scott Baker (on paper the #1 starter for the Twins) was getting shellacked. Sometimes it's the #5 pitcher that ends up being the steady, reliable guy. Wellemayer was good in the past: Maybe being put in the 5th spot in the rotation is just what he needs. That lack of pressure at the #5 spot seems to be doing wonders for the Twins' Francisco Liriano (of course in his case that extra year after surgery may also have something to do with his resurgence).

The thing with Wellemayer was that he was awful in his first two starts. His command was terrible, and he gave up way too many runs. Tuesday was his first good performance all season. Another bad game might have taken him out of the 5th starter role, something I wouldn't mind.

^Flux,

Great poster. Sad they couldn't get it done. I heard the final few innings, but I think this is why I hate pitch count. The only way to take out Lincecum is if he gives up a run, not a walk or hit. Bochey shouldn't have done that, even though I understand the reasoning for bringing in the Closer. 2 out of 3 is not bad though, given it was the Phillies. Looking forward to the West showdown this week against Colorado.

Sigh. There really are no words to describe how disappointing that game was. We basically had it in the bag at 4-1 in the top of the 9th with 2 outs...and Wilson blew it big time. I agree, Bochy should have left Tim in. The crowd was pretty unanimous in it's displeasure when he came out and took the ball. After Lincecum left, it was like they became a different team...for the worse. Wilson's blown save, Affeldt's repeated beanings, Velez's not one, but two blown catches. It as pretty emotionally draining.

It was pretty weird...the sun was shining for all 9 innings but the second Wilson threw us into extra innings, the clouds rolled in Right before it was over, the rain started. Once the game ended...clear skies. :wtf:

I think if we get swept by the Astros we might just want to consider packing it up for the year. I think we need to get rid of Melky and McLouth ASAP... two terrible outfielders for... anybody. And Chipper needs to retire.

Yeah. $3.1 million this year for Melky and his .197 avg, and that's his high avg for the year so far.

$5 million this year for McLouth and his .160 avg. Any number of minor leaguers could do much better than that.

What can I say about Chipper and his $14 mil, hitting .241 with just 6 RBI's. Gross.

It's amazing we are still only 5 games out, but I see no signs of them digging themselves out of this horrific funk. It's just unwatchable at this point.

I had such high hopes after those first two series. We're in desperate need of a new hitting coach. Our pitching is going to waste.

Bobby Cox deserves a better final season than this.

Edit: Yanks beat WSox 6-4! Mets *pound* Phils 9-1!!! :techman:

Yeah it was a pretty good day for NY baseball today. I think the Rays lost today so the Yanks should have moved a game closer to the top spot

Javier is pitching tomorrow though, so the Yankees might as well just not show up to the game :(

If yesterday was a good day for NY baseball, today would be a total disaster :(

Yankees lose to the Sox (thanks Javier  ) and the Mets get completly destroyed by the Phillies ( 10-0, really?)

Went to see the Braves destroy the Astros yesterday. Looks like they're going to sweep the only team that's worse than them.

^^^ Yeah too bad we can't just play them the rest of the year. We might be okay (until the playoffs, then OUCH! ).

A good game in The Bronx today. A 12 to 3 win for the Yanks, plus we got to watch the Sox's manager get tossed
