MLB Talk - 2010 Season

the kick in the SB doesn't happen without the Tuck Rule kick, though. And the superbowl kick wasn't all that special (other than winning it for us). Not too deep, inside, etc. 45 yards in a blizzard, hit it or go home....

And the Tuck Game doesn't happen if Mo Lewis doesn't steamroll Bledsoe in September...

I agree a kick in a blizzard is tougher than in a dome, but to me the one that wins the SB is more iconic. The Tuck game is so mired in the Tuck itself that the FG often gets forgotten.

Still not sure I buy that. The SB-winning kick was big, sure, but I'd be more inclined to just include that in Brady's amazing rush down the field in just over a minute to get AV in a place to kick that field goal for the win. Yeah, it was a 48-yarder, but in a dome, AV was money, and most importantly, the game was tied, so worst case, if it didn't work out, they just go to overtime, and the Pats had been all over the Rams, so not a crushing miss.

The kick in the snow game, was almost the same distance (45 yards vs 48 in the SB-winning kick), but outdoors, in a blizzard, with the team losing by 3 points. Should never have even tried that kick, should have been throwing the ball there, but they plow off a path on the field, go for it, and it clears. just Google search for "Adam Vinatieri snow kick", the first picture that shows up shows just how amazing it was. gotta be, by far, the hardest kick of his career. And it was make it or go home...

Yes, the "tuck rule" does get lumped into that game too, as an important part, but that whole thing comes down to a low-probability kick in a blizzard with the season on the line. Plus, the number of Raiders in the picture, diving for the ball and ALMOST getting a hand on it is amazing :)

Ruaidrhi will probably be disappointed that the Toronto-Philly series was moved to Philadelphia because of the G20 summit. The Jays will be the home team, so there'll be a DH. It'll be weird.

As a Mets fan, I call bullshit on this one.

You're giving Philly 3 addl 'home' games? That's an unfair advantage.

The ones getting screwed are the Toronto fans who were looking forward to seeing Halladay back in town and the Jays, who essentially lose 3 home games. Not the Mets. Francoeur is a whiny bitch.

The Phillies home-away record is nearly identical at this point.

Well of course Toronto is screwed. The Maple Leafs aren't around right now while the Canadiens are still kicking.

At least they still have Kraft Dinner.

That is bizarre. I wonder if something like this has happened before.

Any idea who the Phils DH is going to be this year, btw?

I wish the Rockies could throw Ubaldo Jimenez every game. He's 6-1, the rest of the starters are 7-10. He's sporting an ERA below 1.00 and has allowed only 5 runs in his 7 starts.

He's fun to watch.

By picking up Sergio Mitre in my Yahoo league, I think I've just about guaranteed the Yankees' winning streak against the Twins will end at 12 games.

Yay! The Twins finally beat the Yankees after 12 losing to them 12 straight games. And they won in New York, which they hadn't done since 2007. Glad they finally got that monkey off their backs.

^ Meh, it was a blown save, it happens.

And I'd like to think that tonight, Papelbon didn't hit Cervelli on purpose...oh no, he wouldn't do that, would he... :p

Not that it did the Riverdancing motherfucker any good, of course. :guffaw:
