They should have put $50m into RFK instead of $600m+ into the new stadium.

RFK is a cookie cutter. It is therefore obsolete and must be done away with. Renovating old stadiums like this is, by definition, not cost effective; building new parks is simply more efficient.

Plus, RFK is an ugly piece of shit anyway.

New ballparks are an objective good. All teams should have one. The sooner we sweep away the last of the cookie cutters, the better!

Dodger Stadium is a favorite of mine too. If you ask me, it's one of Walter O'Malley's greatest accomplishments. That stadium is one of the best and most unique places to watch a game. And I love authentic Dadger Dogs....

I was at the opening day of Dodgers Stadium. Agreed, it's a classic.

The one that needs to be torn down and rebuilt is US Cellular Field, aka new Comiskey Park. It is a travesty. You can get vertigo on the upper deck. It has no feel, no class. Old Comiskey was one of my favorite ballparks and the new one should just be dynamited.

Maybe if Obama, a White Sox fan, gets to be president, he can push this through.

The Untied's games are a lot of fun to attend. I saw "El Pibe" - Carlos Valderamma play. I've been to a few games and thoroughly enjoyed them. I saw Toronto FC's stadium at the Ex just last week. I'd like to attend one of those too.

Oh, by the way, just United is fine, as far as the team goes. Some of the MLS teams are described with 'the' added on, but usually not with D.C. United.

It's a total pile of shit. That's an observation, not an opinion. But DC can't afford to heat the schools, etc. The city is broke.

RFK also was built to favor baseball. Life in the upper deck of RFK is vastly superior to that of most new stadiums. You're not pushed back to give layers of luxury boxes an unobstructed view. There also is an overhang to provide shade.

Not sure which group you include us in, but Chase Field has an incredible feel from the upper deck. You are or at least feel very close to the action, and it has excellent sight lines. The concessions are also top notch. Given the choice, I can only think of two stadiums that I'd rather watch baseball in regularly.

You are absolutely right... The real shame with Dodger Stadium is the thug mentality that is allowed in the "less expensive" seats means that you can't take your family there

In college, I used to have an AWESOME view of RFK from my dorm room. I tried to take picture of it, but I couldn't remove the screen so there was no way to take a picture of it. But I thought it would be nifty if I had a pair of pictures taken from both ends. But I never got to watch a game at RFK anyway.

I'll be going to a game at the new Nationals Park this May. I'm looking foward to it. I grew up going to Reds games at Riverfront when we visited relatives in Cincinnati in the summer. It was okay. It was the only cookie-cutter stadium I've been to. But the new ballpark was much better. Fenway was a great experience. I haven't gone there in ages.

I've been to Camden Yards (first time was during the year it opened), Safeco Park in Seattle (I saw my Red Sox beat the Mariners ), Kaufmann Stadium in KC, Coors Field in Denver, and BOB in Phoenix.

A big rumor going around this week that the naming rights to the new Twins park is going to Land O’ Lakes—apparently the bought the rights to a domain name or something like that (Since I don't live in Minnesota, I get third-person info on this stuff).

Well, if you do wanna give RFK a try this year, you're in luck - United host Pachuca tomorrow night, and would do with all of the supporters they can get, to help give the Mexican team the right 'welcome'!

(United are 2-0 down after the first leg down in Hidalgo, but hope to turn it around in RFK.)

Plus, there will be plenty of home games for United in both domestic and international competition.



As far as Nationals Park goes, it will be interesting to see what kind of attendance they average this season - I hear they had about 20k last weekend.

(Oh, by the way, how was the attendance for the Nats when they were in RFK anyway? I can find United's figures, but not those for the Nationals...)

Opening Day at Nationals Park was sold out. Last night was their second game and brought in about 21,000, which isn't bad for a cold Monday in DC.

That already happened last year. It's kind of a mindfuck seeing a structurally near complete stadium in the Shea parking lot.

Last time I was there was the '06 playoffs and they had a staging area but no real building up at that point.
