MLB Offseason: Owners got a dinger of a CBA

C'mon, owners! Cancel the whole season, you always say you lose less money when the players aren't playing, put your money where your collective mouths are!

I wonder how many games the owners have decided to cancel before they "settle for the good of the game".

Creeps.

Jordan has been majority owner of the Bobcats for 12 years and minority owner for 4 years before that. A few good years, lots of not so good ones.

Great ex-player doesn't guarantee anything.

Rob Manfred: "The last five years were difficult from a revenue perspective."

Difficult in that it's hard to find places to stack the literal billions they are making.

Oh, kiss my ass, Manfred. From 2015 to 2019 alone, revenues increased by more than 30 percent.

It bears repeating that I think owners actively hate this sport and watching it. They saw it as an investment, and when the "investment" fights back, they piss and moan.

Much like your landlords!

Cancel the entire season and send all the players AND owners to Ukraine. That'll solve the baseball problem. :D

This is fucking ridiculous. The plague seems to be resolving (Please, God, please). Spring is coming and people are ready for some baseball!

Figure it out.

This is ridiculous.

I will sound extremely spiteful but I hope there is no baseball and people can figure out a better way to resolve this. It's frustrating and I don't feel any need to contribute to the problem with my time and money.

The players even went so far as to offer to play under the terms of the previous CBA for a season. The owners told them to pound sand. Labor wants to work.

Per Evan Drellich of The Athletic, one component of the league's "last, best" offer was including the players' daily meal money as part of a team's overall spending against the luxury tax threshold.

That's some hilarious Snidely Whiplash-level shit.

In case you're wondering what to get the hard-to-shop-for baseball fan in your life next birthday/anniversary/major December holiday, there's this:

Signed photo of Nolan Ryan pounding the crap out of Robin Ventura with the inscription, "Don't mess with Texas"

That's not my favorite baseball brawl of all time (Kyle Farnsworth delivering a picture-perfect spinebuster to Paul Wilson, so brutally that you can see the precise moment Wilson's soul leaves his body, will always be the best), but, damn, that's an iconic image.

I had a trip to Busch and Kauffman stadiums lined up for the first week of May. I don't expect these games to be played now. I think we're going to the beach.

You'll never convince me that MLB needs to ban the shift.

Manfred really seems to be playing to the lowest common denominator. I, for one, liked the strategy element of baseball, much like you'd see in football. Yes, the easy way to appeal to people is a home run, especially a walk off, but some of us are also interested in the small ball that can win (see: Edgar Renteria in 1997, Luis Gonzalez in 2001).

If these are truly the best players in the world, they should be able to strategize and overcome a defensive strategy.

You don’t like the shift?

Hit away from it. That’ll stop it right quick.
