Yordano Ventura and former major leaguer Andy Marte both died in separate car crashes in the Dominican Republic this morning. ESPN reports that both are said to have been under the influence.

The season goes too long. November is too cold too.The third week of March? Are you insane? It's miserable enough to attend a game at Wrigley or Yankee Stadium or Camden in the first week of April. Scheduling games when it's still entirely possible to have snow falling in half the league's stadiums would be madness.

Sounds to me like some union needed to strike.And that could easily be remedied by reducing the schedule to 154 games, as the union has been pushing to do for more than a decade. Ownership's response has always been that such a proposal will go nowhere without the players eating an across-the-board salary reduction.
As far as Travis Wood, I'm surprised the Cubs haven't signed him to at least compete for a bullpen spot.
