Happy Birthday to Albert Pujols, he turns 37 today.

The Angels still owe him $150 million.

Sounds like Joey Bats is heading back to Toronto on a one-year deal with a mutual option, total value is in the $40 million range.

Off the top of my head, that leaves the scraps of Wieters, Trumbo, Travis Wood and ... uh, I don't know, Hammel, I guess, remaining in free agency.

The Cubs would be smart to resign Wood. you can never go into spring training with too many decent relievers, and Wood is at least decent.

If they could get Hammel to move to the pen, he could be pretty good. His biggest problem is running out of gas around July.

Ken Rosenthal was saying last month that the belief around the league is that the elbow injury that shut him down last season is much worse than Hammel's camp been saying, and the potato chip thing from last summer raised some red flags, too -- you have to basically be drinking a swimming pool of alcohol or taking a shit-ton of Ex-Lax on a daily basis to be hypokalemic to the point of cramping almost every day, and no reputable physician would say, "Oh, just eat some potato chips, you'll be fine." That's like telling a patient to eat a block of cheddar cheese every day to address a calcium deficiency.

He did switch agencies two weeks ago, but at this point he'll be lucky to get a one-year deal.

If that's true, then I can see him not getting signed at all, except maybe the Braves since they're on a sign & flip agenda.

How about a block of cheese the size of a car battery?

With approximately 57 percent of ballots public, it looks like this year's Hall of Fame class will be Raines and Bagwell. Pudge has an outside shot and it looks like Vlad will just miss.

Mike Mussina has made an impressive jump in his total votes, which is nice to see.

A sin for Vlad not to make it.

A sin that it took so long for Rained to make it.

First ballet hall of famer for Pudge. I guess steroids are now officially off the tableas Bagwell gets in too.

I'm a little sad that Jorge is off the ballet. I know.... Blah, blah

That's ok, I think Bernie should be in too :D

Let the thrashing begin.

I love that people just assume Bagwell was juicing.

Next year's class looks to be Vlad, Chipper Jones and Hoffman. Good on the BBWAA for putting three guys in this year, because we're still in for another couple of years of really packed ballots. Beyond Bonds, Clemens, Mussina and two more years of Edgar, we'll be adding:

This year: Thome, Chipper, Andruw Jones and then a whole bunch of guys who are borderline at best, led by Rolen and Vizquel
Next year: Rivera, an incredibly tough call on Halladay and a borderline discussion on Helton and Pettite
Year after: YEAH JEETS, Abreu, Giambi

Play for a minimum of ten years and be retired for five, and be nominated by at least two of the six members of the BBWAA screening committee (each member serves a three-year term, two members are elected every year).

Oh, and don't be on Major League Baseball's Permanently Ineligible list.

Oh, Curt. Never stop. You would have sailed into the Hall by now as the best pitcher in playoff history (although MadBum is starting to get near your heels) if you could learn to shut up.

Yordano Ventura and former major leaguer Andy Marte both died in separate car crashes in the Dominican Republic this morning. ESPN reports that both are said to have been under the influence.
