a day-old burrito they're welcome to sign

Give the burrito another day or two to dry out and the ink might stick.

Use a gel pen.

Jed Hoyer held a presser and said that the Darvish trade was not in any way about payroll flexibility, but rather restocking the prospect cupboard for the Cubs.

Right, Jed, that's why you traded one of the best pitchers in baseball for a bunch of lottery tickets who are just out of high school. You have learned well from your mentor the art of telling bald-faced lies to the media and having them just eat it up.

I swear, I'm about ready to renounce my lifelong Cubs fandom.

Another blank Hall of Fame ballot has been turned in, this time by first-time voter David Skretta. His justification: "Those that I believe performed at a Hall of Fame level on the field did not reach that threshold in such areas as character and integrity."

Jesus fucking Christ, BBWAA, get off your high horse. (And for the love of God, kick noted turbo-racist Landis out of the Hall.)

And let Shoeless Joe in.

Indeed.

Joe was almost certainly not in on the Black Sox thing. He was illiterate, so he couldn't have read the waiver of immunity they made him sign. He tried to tell Charlie Comiskey about the plan to throw the series, but Comiskey wouldn't listen. He couldn't afford an attorney, so he ended up being represented by the team's lawyer, an obvious conflict of interest. Also, other players who WERE in on it, freely admitted they only mentioned Joe's name in the first place to give more credibility to the plot.

And Joe didn't take the money, either. (Not willingly, anyway. He flat out refused to take it on two separate occasions. Lefty Williams ended up dumping the cash on the floor of Joe's hotel room.)

That reminds me that I still owe all y'all the writeup of the evidence that strongly suggests Jackson was in on the Black Sox throwing the Series. I just got home from two weeks in the hospital today, but I believe I know where it's located on my fileserver, I'll go looking for it after a video call this afternoon.

In any event, fuck Landis and kick his ass out of the Hall.

Looking forward to it, and wishing you continued recovery.

Fun fact: Only one person was banned from baseball for reasons of character under Landis, Benny Kauff, amid rumors that he was secretly Jewish, and allegedly conspired to sell a stolen car to a Jewish customer. He was acquitted, but Landis ruled that Kauff was "no longer a fit companion for other ballplayers."

A lesser-known Landis fact in addition to his hard work maintaining the color line. Fuck that guy so hard.

You'd fit in well with our Philly fan-base!

The Mets just absolutely fleeced the Indians for Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco. And with that move, the Indians' 2021 payroll projects to be just south of $50 million.

Players expected to make over $1M on Cleveland’s roster this season: Jose Ramirez, Roberto Perez, Austin Hedges, Nick Wittgren, Amed Rosario.

That’s it. That’s the list.
