MLB Offseason 2020-21: I'm a Hall of Famer baseball person

What strikes me is how brazenly cynical the whole thing is. They want the good PR of changing the name, while also getting all the money from the pro-Indians fans who will (hopefully, in the team's mind) spend even more money on merch this season knowing that it's going away. Then, once they actually change the name they get all the money from the non-shithead fans who are happy to buy new, not-racist merch on top of the completionists who will buy the new stuff while still bellyaching about losing the team's heritage or whatever.

This part of the press release was amazing:

"As part of our ongoing commitment to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, it is our intention to donate profits from the sale of Chief Wahoo merchandise to Native American-focused organizations and causes."

Note they said profits. Pay no attention to the costs of manufacturing suddenly skyrocketing by 1,000 percent!

This is money grubbing to a serious level.

It's 2020, some action group will decide that's offensive to spiders.

So the plan is cancel the whole season in the name of safety, sounds ok, but make sure the playoffs happen because that's where the cash is for them :D

MLB reclassifies Negro Leagues as major league

Willie Mays will add some hits to his record, Monte Irvin's big league batting average should climb over .300, and Satchel Paige might add nearly 150 victories to his total.

Josh Gibson, the greatest of all Negro League sluggers, might just wind up with a major league record too.

The statistics and records of greats such as Gibson, Paige and roughly 3,400 other players are set to join Major League Baseball's books after MLB announced Wednesday that it is reclassifying the Negro Leagues as a major league.

So how did they figure out how to make money off of the Negro League?

Cleveland Indians looking to change their name. Linky

(here's hoping some money-grubbing jackass doesn't start buying up all possible names like that one guy did for the Washington football team....)

I am surprised this wasn't a whole thread...but thanks for posting the news.

OK, so the pure racist term of Redskins is gone. Indians is a misnomer based on where Columbus thought he was going.

What about Blackhawks (legit tribe name), Braves (legit native American term) and Chiefs (another legit term)?

Any others?

With the BlackHawks, they don't need to change the name or colors, just the logo. And a great new logo was designed by a First Nations artist ... It's so good, a whole lot of NON Hockey fans would buy it.

Gotta go with Blues...Reds vs Blues!

Yeah, we get that every 4 years already...so maybe a different color? Reds & Greens? (A few other colors are out )

The Phillies have made ex-player Sam Fuld their new GM, though Dave Dombrowski will be the decision maker. An interesting choice, Sam has been in their front office for 3 years.

Cleveland has the Browns. Cincinnati has the Reds. What's between brown and red that the Cleveland baseball team can use?
