MLB Offseason 2020-21: I'm a Hall of Famer baseball person

Theoretically, pitchers and catchers report in a month. Yet we have no idea if there is a universal DH, MLB has not established if there is a 162-game schedule, and free agents like Realmuto, Springer, LeMahieu and Bauer are sitting at home without contracts, twiddling their thumbs.

Yes, this is perfectly normal.

The Cubs signed ... Shelby Miller off the scrap heap. Right now, he projects as the #5 starter.

Truly he is the chosen one to lead the Cubs back to contention.

Just a part of the march back too mediocrity.

"Low and way...outside"

I love the Hot Stove League talk, b.t.w.

The other end of the rotation should be fun with the Mets looking at Jeffress.

It sounds like Lester is close to an agreement with the Nationals, so subtract him and consider the rotation after Hendricks and Mills (who's a prime candidate to turn back into a pumpkin) ... hoo boy, Cubs games are going to be tough to watch this year.

Edit: Per Passan, Lester and the Nats have agreed to a one-year deal with a mutual option. He's not the pitcher he used to be, but he'll be a solid back-of-the-rotation anchor behind Strasburg, Scherzer and Corbin. I can't wait for Jed Hoyer to plant a classic "we tried" story with the Sun-Times (less likely with the Tribune, as they haven't been terribly willing to carry the Cubs' water for them over the past year and a half, although you never know, since their longtime Cubs beat writer just left for another job and the new person might want to make nice with Hoyer's regime).

I was more than prepared to subtract Lester. He's been burnt out more and more for the last couple years. Too stubborn to adjust his game like Darvish, he might be able to be a bullpen arm (also too stubborn to do this).

Tyler Chatwood signs with the Blue Jays. He had some surprisingly good starts before injury in 2020, no doubt he'll have a great year somewhere else.

WTF does that leave us with? Hendricks, Quintana, that guy, that other guy and a retread? Did I miss anybody?

ESPN is reporting that NY Mets GM Jared Porter admitted to sending explicit images to a female reporter when he was working for the Cubs; the Mets have fired his dumb ass accordingly.

Remember, guys, the ladies don't want to see your dick pics, whether they're your own or you found them on Shutterstock.*

*I have no idea if there are any dick pics on Shutterstock. Probably not.

I'm old and curmudgeonly, but I've gotta ask. Are weenie selfies a thing these days? I have to say nothing would surprise me.

Damn...to have your sweet ignorance in these ages of...garbage men.

That said, I've never understood why guys do that or how they get into their heads that anyone would be interested such trash, especially complete strangers.

I have to say, the urge to photograph the old family jewels has never struck me. What's a bigger question, do women like it?

If the context is that both parties are willingly and enthusiastically swapping nekkid pics of each other, then yes. But that was not the context here, nor is it the context 99.99999999999999999999% of the time, so basically, no.

Pretty much. It's sickening that the Pirates got a better return for Joe Musgrove than the Cubs did for Darvish.

That said, though, the NL Central has been a wasteland this offseason.

We defined "major addition” as an MLB free agent contract of any value or any trade acquisition with at least one day of MLB service time. As of this writing, here is a comprehensive list of every major addition within the NL Central this offseason. (2020 fWAR in parentheses)

Brewers:
Signed Daniel Robertson (0.2 WAR)
Signed Luke Maile (missed season with finger injury; -0.3 WAR in 2019)

Cardinals:
None

Cubs:
Acquired Zach Davies (1.4 WAR)
Signed Jonathan Holder (-0.1 WAR)

Pirates:
Acquired Wil Crowe (-0.5 WAR)

Reds:
Signed Edgar Ernesto Garcia (-0.4 WAR)
Acquired Art Warren (0.1 WAR)
Acquired Scott Heineman (-0.4 WAR)
Acquired Noé Ramirez (0.1 WAR)
Acquired Jeff Hoffman (0.1 WAR)
Acquired Brandon Bailey (0.0 WAR)

All told, the entire NL Central has, by my math, spent less than a million dollars in free agency this winter.
