MLB Offseason 2014-15: Wait, pitchers and catchers report WHEN?

He hit 23 last season, which was up from 11 the season before (he even hit three home runs in spring training). No one is denying that he'll hit some. But I also don't think anyone is saying he's back just because of the some he hit.

I don't doubt he'll hit home runs (he still has power); I just think he'd be better off playing in the American League where he could DH.

In other news, Pablo Sandoval is still fat (and still running his mouth).

Ryan Howard isn't better off anywhere. In Philly, he gets paid a crap load of money. Elsewhere, they wouldn't pay him that.

That's because the Phillies were the only team that didn't see his eventual decline coming. In fairness, it's possible Howard would have been more productive the past three seasons had he not injured himself at the end 2011, but it was only a matter of time before his bat slowed down and dropped his batting average into the low.200s.

I'm not disagreeing with that. You just said it would be better for Ryan Howard if he were on another team, I don't agree with that.

Why? Guaranteed money, not like they can cut him or reduce his pay. MLB is funny like that. Why WOULDN'T he be better off on a team where he could DH, avoid the field, and reduce wear and tear on a damaged body?

Zack Wheeler has a torn UCL and will have Tommy John surgery.

I have no idea why the hell the Mets let Terry Collins keep his job after last year.

I think after each years draft, they should just take all the pitchers chosen and send them for Tommy John surgery. Just get it over with and then they can dtart their MLB careers two years later.

Does it really matter who's the Manager of the Mets right now or the foreseeable future. Collins is innocuous enough.

^ I don't see how it's possibly Terry Collins' fault. There've been plenty of other pitchers who've needed Tommy John surgery. Is it all of THEIR managers' fault as well?

Wheeler was handled really badly last year. There were far too many games when he was throwing 92 with his mechanics totally broken down late in the game and Collins sent him out for another inning. Pitch counts are a crutch that causes us to ignore real things like when a dude looks tired or loses command / velocity, and it was happening to Wheeler a lot last year.

This is why you never, ever, ever, ever let a manager stir on the hot seat for so long. Collins managed to squeeze every win out last year, even though the difference between 74 and 78 wins to the franchise was nothing. To Collins, however, it was probably his job. That's why Wheeler got pushed hard.

A side story of this is how the Mets' public credibility on injuries and other statements is now at Iraqi Information Minister levels, considering the Mets were saying forever that Wheeler was healthy and now today Alderson is saying they knew last year that his elbow was a ticking time bomb (and they still sent him out for 32 starts), which means they're either lying now or they demonstrated incompetence beyond Ruben Amaro levels last season.

MLB's biggest surprises and disappointments

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...isappointment-at-springs-midway-point/page/20

(YANKEES)

Biggest Disappointment: Didi Gregorius
Replacing Derek Jeter was never going to be easy, but Didi Gregorius hasn't endeared himself to the New York faithful so far this spring.
Gregorius has only three hits in his first 17 at-bats, with four K's to add to his resume. The 25-year-old is known for his nifty glove work, but he'll need to figure it out at the dish to stick in the Bronx.
Honorable Mention: Stephen Drew

Yup, just hitting up a storm against that top notch spring training pitching...

Brilliant Cashman, just brilliant.

Yes, he's a total loss after seventeen spring training at-bats.

It's not like he's working his way up from the minors...

3 for 17...

Oh, and Drew is worse.

2 for 19...

Like I said, I'll be rooting for the kid, but I think it's a bad signing by Cashman.

It's still spring training.
I wouldn't get too excited.

Exactly. Spring training numbers are about as meaningless as they get. Toronto went 24 - 7 in spring training in 2012 and went on to lose 89 games.
