MLB Chatter 2008

Haven't checked into this thread for a while. Probably has something to do with the Jays recent dismal stretch of 3-11...

Now, however, they've swept the White Sox and are on a five-game winning streak. Go figure.

Ha! Yeah, you're welcome. ;)

Think the Twins can pay us back next time you play Boston or New York?

So, you just finished a rant about how Wally the Green Monster sucks, but then ended it by saying you didn't know what he looks like?

I can't upload a pic, but there's a link to a pic of him here from the Red Sox page:

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/bos/community/wally.jsp

Not his best pic, but basically just a big green guy with orange hair, wearing a Sox uniform. And the Phanatic sucks, just like his team...

No offense, but he looks like a Sesame Street character who's a little green in the gills: Too much fun juice the night before, I guess.
No argument here. Then again, since a team mascot is really only for the kids anyway, isn't that a GOOD thing? Be thankful I didn't try and defend the super-lame "lefty and righty" secondary mascots. Yeah, they're socks.

And it's a bit wrong to say Wally looks like something out of Sesame Street, and then defend the Phanatic. The Phanatic was designed by one of the guys that worked with Henson and the Muppets :p

Ah, but you have to talk about the team when they lose. It makes you more of a fan to support a losing team than just supporting a winner. That's what bandwagoner fans are like. ;)

Speaking of teams who were supposed to lose this year, I am quite pleased with the way the Giants and A's are playing. It's May and they are still interesting. I wonder when we will see Zito again though.

Well the Mets are in LA, and I`m sick of the Joe Torre/Brooklyn talk that SNY has been feeding me. I`m also sick of this group of bums who played like shit last night and would it kill King David to get a hit off a righty. At least tonight we have a bum pitcher to face so we can choke later on the in the game instead of early.

Oh well, at least we smacked around "The Best Team in the NL." Before I forget, I just wanna mention that Joe Torre is an overrated bum who made Willie Randolph the bum he is today. Fuck him and even I could win 4 world series with the players George gave him.

You don't have to put "the best team in the NL in quotes", they ARE the best team in the NL, from pitching staff, to lineup, to bullpen, the are the most complete and balanced team, and the scary part is for the most part...they are young.

And I hate the Idea of a manager only being part of success because of the players he had. I'm sorry, if you are gonna blame a manager for loosing, you also have to blame him for winning, because you can't play one side of the card. I'm not saying Torre is the best manager, but damn, the guy won 4 World Series, and had been to the postseason for 12 straight years. He had SOMETHING to do with it, cause if Dusty Baker was managing the Yankees for that time, I dont think the success rate would be nearly as high.

"The Best Team in the NL" just lost 2 out of 3 to the bum ass Mets, and the shitty Phillies had the go ahead run at the plate in the 9th last night and beat them the day before. I can`t wait for the Cubbies and the Tigers to come by.

Clueless Joe has trouble managing bullpens, and before he got all the talented Yankee players, his Braves, Mets and Cardinals teams were nothing to write home about. He also managed to turn Willie Randolph into a lifeless bum.

Speaking of lifeless bums, its time we meet the Mets. I thought this team got over last years collapse. These last two games are starting to look awfully like Sept. 07. Maybe we need another couple of games in Arizona and Philly to work out our problems. At least next weekend we face the even worse Yankees and that should light a fire under this teams ass. Where is Bobby V when you need him.

Well seeing as how Torre was able to win with those rich, expensive teams, what does that say about Randolph, cause he is still sucking even with the rich expensive team.

And if doesn't matter if the Phillies had the tying run at the plate or at 3rd, the D-backs still won. Trust me, I am no D-Backs fan (even though what they did to the Yanks in the 01 WS was priceless, as was the look on Rivera's face), but I like what I am seeing out there in the desert. They are a young, hungry team that wants to win, and you can't argue (so far) with a 22-10 (I think) record.

And yes I agree that if Torre does have faults as a manager, its his bullpen usage, he is HARD on bullpens, especially his favorite guys. But Managers can't be perfect. And yes, the success of the mid to late 90's Yanks are because of the team, but also because of the manager. Trust me, in Philly, I get shit from many Phillies fans about my Red Sox gear, and specifically Francona, who sucked while he was here. But his teams also sucked. But now with the Sox, he is a 2 time WS winner. Yes the team has to do with it, but his managing has to come into play as well. And on a team, and organization like the Sox, where vets are always present, he does not need to be the same kind of manager as Joe Maddon of the Rays, because his players know how to play the game. But the man is great at managing the clubhouse, which is what you have to do if you are a manager in a town, and a team like Boston, where there can be egos. I can tell you that on the Red Sox, there would be none of the shit that happened between Wagner and Perez a few days ago, because Francona would have none of it. Hell, Francona is the only man on the planet to at least understand manny, let alone get him to hustle for him, and since Francona has been here, Manny and Francona have a mutual understanding and relationship, and Manny is finally happy and wants to stay.

Now I don't watch the Mets nearly enough to give a commentary on Randolph, and I don't know the decisions that make him a bum.

You can be the best manager in the world, but if you ace is freaking Sidney Ponson, you are gonna be in deep shit for the year.

As a Mets fan, the best way to describe their play in uninspired. I'm not big into 'heart' and 'emotion' and all that stuff, that's mainly to fill up talk radio airtime.

But they just look like they are going through the motions. They are making too many mental miscues.

I don't know if Willie has lost the clubhouse or what. They are playing about the same as they did when the melted down last year and come off as apathetic.

It's getting to the point in the season where you can no longer blame things on a slow start or say 'you haven't seen the real (team) yet.'

The starting pitching has been reasonably good all things considered with injuries. The bullpen has blown more games than I can count, and the offense never rallies to come back late.

I hate Julio Lugo. I swear the guy turns playing shortstop into a fucking adventure everytime there is a ball hit to him.

He turned what would have been a great come from behind victory, to a shit-fest cause he can't get an out on a routine ground ball.

I hate that shit, he is Renteria all over again

Now that the Dodger series is over and Big Game Maine gave us exactly what we needed, I just wanted to write and say how much of a pleasure it is to listen to Vin Scully do his thing. I hope he never retires.

It seems like the Mets have played uninspired ever since Adam Wainwright crushed our souls. Wainwright`s pitch to Beltran that ended 2006 was ether in its purest form and this team still has not recovered. Of course it doesn`t help that we have Randolph as our manager because this team needs somebody to kick them in their asses and Willie is not that kind of manager.

Yeah. Lugo is good for precisely two things: (1) ground out double plays and (2) throwing errors. He's a weak link. It's time to get rid of him.

And with Lowrie in the wings, get rid of him quickly. Even if Lowrie has the same amount of errors, i would forgive him, cause he is a rookie. But Lugo should know better. I mean errors happen I know, but WTF its like every play. Ten errors one month into the season...10! Hell with that.

Lugo should be playing catch with Bartolo at the very least.

Hopefully Tito will come to his senses and put Lowrie back in the lineup.

Hey Bartolo might might help the team, so don't stick Lugo on him. Have him go sell hot dogs or something. How I long for Alex Gonzalez, that man was an artist at short.

Did anyone else watch that collision in the top of the 8th of the Phils-Dbacks game? Ouch. That one hurt. Looks like it knocked Jackson out for a while. He was flat on his face on top of the bag for a good ten minutes.

I listnened to the beginning of the first two games of the series on XM. Vin rules. I love how he does the broadcast alone. So often the color commentators come off as stooges and offer little more than anecdotal stories of their playing careers.

And I too love John Maine.

Hmmm...sounds like I traded him just in time. ;)
